Soaring Peak

Soaring peak

and sloping sides,

Base as broad

as both horizons;

Snow-capped summit

silver-gleaming,

Cloud-capped foot-hills,

crystal-glistening.

Its pinnacle arose

to pierce the peaks’-pane;

Its sides swelled

from sunrise to sunset.

Shrill-criers soared

among sheer crests;

Monkeys chattered

on its mantle of leaves.

The bright-disc’s road

harbored birds and bats;

Vines and roots

concealed vipers and pythons.

Furnished the fells

with flowers many,

And healing herbs

on the heights all-a-glow.

Fairies danced

on the fairest foot-hills;

Sages sat

before simple huts.

Cooling breeze

on the crags cavorted;

Silver mist

sailed softly overhead.
