Power High
If only High School was this cool!
"This sucks. I can't believe I'm even going here. Why couldn't I have just stayed back home and go to school with the normal kids, I mean, I'm not THAT gifted am I?" Kitsu asked.
"Stop looking down on your talents. I mean, who else can build machines like this at your age. You're going and that's final!" his father replied.
Kitsu Igawa is a humble high school student, constantly looking down on his amazing mechanical prowess. His phenomenal ability to build complex machinery at such a young age had his parents begin searching for a better education for him. He mainly builds machines called mods, which enhance human performance in numerous tasks.
Seeing his gifts, his parents transferred him to a school for gifted children like himself. They transfered him to Haburi High. It is his first day at a new school. He reluctantly starts his his first day at Haburi High, School For The Gifted.
Kitsu awakens to the buzzing of his alarm. He looks at the clock, which reads 6:30 AM. "Ugh, it's to damn early for this. Might as well get up now. I'm not in the mood to deal with mom yelling at me to get up and how I'm gonna be late". Kitsu got out of bed and walked downstairs for breakfast. He grabbed a random box of cereal, to tired to care what he ate, and poured himself a bowl full. He swirled it around in his bowl for a bit, and realized he wasn't even hungry. He poured his cereal down the garbage disposal and went back up to his room. He changed into a pair of jeans and a black T-shirt with the phrase "Machines have feelings too." on the front. He grabbed his backpack and walked downstairs again. He waked out the front door being sure not to wake his parents on the way out.
He walked up to the corner just as the bus pulled up. "Here goes my first day in hell." Kitsu thought as he got on the bus. It was mostly full, but Kitsu found an open seat next to a beautiful girl. She had red hair, which cut off at her shoulders. She had green eyes and was wearing a black shirt .
"Why the long face?" she asked.
"I really don't want to be here. First day in a new school, you probably know the feeling." Kitsu answered.
"Well, it looks like you could use a friend. My name is Yakedo, and you are?"
"Kitsu, Kitsu Igawa. Nice meeting you."
"So, what's your ability." Yakedo asked.
"What do you mean?" Kitsu replied.
"Well, you wouldn't be here if you didn't have some sort of ability." Yakedo said.
"I can build things. I'll show you what I mean when we get to school." Kitsu answered.
The Bus arrived at shool in a matter of minutes. As Kitsu and Yakedo got off the bus, she asked, "Show me what you were talking about earlier". With the push of a button, wheels sprouted from the bottom of his shoes and a small jet of flame fired out from the back, propelling him through the front door. "Interesting, he's a mechanical genius." Yakedo thought.
Kitsu made his way to the auditorium with the rest of the students for the room assignments. This would be the place he was to go before his first class. A tall old man wearing a blue tailored jacket, blue dress slacks, and a matching tie, read room numbers and names off of the list, through reading glasses barely clinging to the tip of his nose. Finally Kitsu's name came up. "Boruto, Misuto, Kichou, Kitsu, Koori, Anei, Miwaku, Yakedo, and Waza, your room assignment is room 322." the administrator said. With that, the group of them got up and walked off to their room. On the way, Miwaku approached Yakedo and Koori.
"Hey ladies, how's it going? Haven't seen you girls all summer. Maybe we can catch up a bit." Miwaku said hoping to score some points with the ladies.
"There's a reason we didn't keep in touch Miwaku, and I thought you'd realize it by now." Koori said.
"Oh, thats cold, but thats to be expected from you, maybe Yakedo would like to turn up the heat, what you say baby?" Miwaku continued.
"Sure thing Miwaku." she said as the held him in her arms. Koori looked stunned, until Yakedo gave her a wink, then she calmed down.
"Mmmmmm, you're so warm Yakedo, that's what I always liked about you. Wait, I smell smoke, is something...". It was then Miwaku realized his shirt was on fire. "TOO HOT!!!" he screamed as he ran down the hall trailing smoke behind him as he went.
The two girls giggles as Kitsu watched in awe. "What are these people?" he thought to himself. "You're new here aren't you? I don't remember seeing you around here last year. What's your name?" a voice from behind bellowed. Kitsu slowly turned around. Behind him he saw a tall muscular man, most likely a senior. He had a deep tan, and had muscles bursting out from under his tight T-shirt. "Kitsu, Kitsu Igawa." Kitsu said cautiously.
"I'm Boruto, and if anybody gives you any trouble, just let me know, I'll set em' straight!" Boruto said enthusiastically.
Kitsu looked around at the rest of his classmates. There was Koori, the girl whom Miwaku had been hitting on earlier. She had light blue hair and a very cold look in her eyes. Her skin was pale.
Next there was Misuto. She had long, wavy blonde hair. She had a beautiful face, and bright blue eyes. She seemed to walk with a great sense of authority.
Kichou reminded Kitsu of himself in a sense. He was a short scrawny kid who wore unbelievably thick glasses, pocket protectors, the works, but Kitsu could tell there was more to him than the eye could see. He too had the mind of a technological genius.
Kitsu almost didn't even notice Anei, even though she was standing right beside him. She had long black hair. She wore thin square frame glasses, a black blouse with a matching black skirt. Kitsu was surprised he didn't notice her earlier.
Waza was off towards the back of the group, eyes completely focused on a pad she was holding. Not even watching where she was going, she scribbled in the pad as she walked. Kitsu snuck over to see what she was doing. She was drawing a bouquet of flowers. As she finished the final stroke with her pencil, she reached through the paper and pulled them out. They had burst to life in vibrant color. Kitsu stood watching in amazement as she smelled the flowers she had just drawn. She had long light brown hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a T-shirt that was obviously to large, and old battered jean shorts.
"Wow, that was amazing." Kitsu said in awe.
"Thanks, but it's nothing special really." Waza replied.
"I'm Kitsu by the way."
"Waza, pleased to meet you."
The group finally made it to room 322. Everyone took their seats, Miwaku as close to Yakedo and Koori as possible, despite their attempts to get away from him. Anei sat off in a corner. Waza, Boruto, and Misuto sat around the same area, and Kichou sat off to the side alone. Kitsu took a seat next to Kichou.
"So, what is your ability?" Kitsu asked.
"I'm a pilot. You name it, I can control it. I don't think we've met. I'm Kichou." he replied.
"I'm Kitsu, nice to meet you."
The old man from before entered the room. "It is good to see you all again, and it looks like we have a new student here as well. Well, now that room assignments are over and done with, I would like to say that I have a surprise for you. Contrary to last year, we have now become in a sense, a boarding school. All students will reside here until the summer, in which they will be free to go home if they so desire. Do not worry about bringing your personal belongings, they have already been sent. This will be the first class of the day for all students. It is when we will be making our daily announcements before the start of the school day. It will begin promptly at 8:00 AM each day of classes. Classes will not start until next Monday, so take this week to get settled in. Your belongings are in room 502. That is where you will all be sleeping. Have a nice week of adjustment and I will see you all around campus." he finally concluded as he then proceeded to walk out the door.
The group got out of their seats and walked up the stairs to room 502. Upon opening the door, all of their personal belongings were in bags on the floor. There were multiple beds, and two separate bathrooms, a mens room and womens room. It looked like the girls had the largest (and heaviest) bags. Most of the time Boruto was moving their bags for them, since the bags were to heavy for the girls to lift. Kitsu quickly found his bags. He was in luck, his parents had packed all of his mods, along with his tools. He opened up the bag with his clothes and packed them into the dresser next to the bed he had picked out.
While he was unpacking, Boruto put a massive bag down by the next bed over from Kitsu's.
"You taking that bed Boruto?" Kitsu asked.
"What do you think." Boruto replied sarcastically.
It was then Kitsu noticed the bag was bright pink.
"I guess pink really isn't your color is it?" Kitsu replied.
Waza walked over, thanked Boruto for his help, and then began to unpack. After pulling out what looked like hundreds of pads of paper and even more pencils, she finally found where her clothes were packed, and began sorting them and putting them in drawers. As she lifted one of her shirts out of the bag, another few pencils fell out of it. "They could have just packed a pencil sharpener." Waza said as she lifted more clothes out of the bag. "Oh, they did." She said as she picked up a small manual pencil sharpener.
"Your parents sure know how to over pack." Kitsu said.
"Oh, hey Kitsu, didn't even see you over there. Yea, they really do. This should keep me busy for the next few years, I mean, God forbid I somehow get trapped in school with no way to get a pencil." She replied with a laugh. She took out the pencil and pad she was using earlier and started drawing.
"What are you making this time?" Kitsu asked.
"You'll see when I'm done." She replied.
Feeling the need to freshen up after a long morning, Kitsu walked into the bathroom. It was a large room with multiple stalls, and two showers in the back. Kitsu grabbed a washcloth and started washing his face. The mirror started to fog up from the hot air from the washcloth. He felt something on his shoulder. He shrugged it off thinking it was his mind playing tricks on him. He finished up and walked back out of the bathroom.
Kitsu noticed Anei sitting in the corner alone. He walked over to her curious as to why she was alone.
"Hi." Kitsu said.
"Please, leave me alone for a minute." she replied
"Did something happen?" Kitsu asked
"No, I'm trying to meditate and you're bothering me, now please go away." she said sternly.
As he looked up, Kitsu noticed the shadows on the wall in front of Anei were dancing, they were waltzing around the wall. Kitsu stood in amazement as he watch the shadows gracefully dance around the room.
"Do you mind not hovering over me, you're going to break my concentration if you keep it up, and you don't want to get on my bad side, especially when the shadows are plentiful." Anei said through gritted teeth.
Kitsu got the hint and backed away, still watching the shadows. As he was walking backwards, he accidentally bumped into Misuto.
"Hey, watch it! Watch where your going next time!" she said.
"Oh, sorry, I'm Kitsu by the way." Kitsu replied.
"Does it look like I care? Now get out of my way." she said
"Who the hell does she think she is?" Kitsu thought as he walked over to his bed.
"Don't let her get to you Kitsu, she's always like that around new people. Give her some time, she'll open up eventually." Boruto said.
Just then, a scream came from the womens bathroom. The door opened as Miwaku was thrown out, with a large red handprint on his face from where he had been slapped. "Damn, give a guy a break here. Walked in the wrong door, its a common mistake!" Miwaku said as he tried to justify why he was in the wrong bathroom. Everyone laughed and went on with their business.
Kitsu decided to explore the new school. He walked out of the room and walked around. The halls were practically empty. He looked in the windows on the doors and noticed a few of the rooms were computer labs, others were science labs, but most looked like normal classrooms. He spent the rest of the day wandering around the school, and then trying to find his way back to room 502.
When he finally got back, most of his roommates had changed into their night time attire, the girls constantly keeping a close watch on Miwaku. Kitsu walked over to his drawer and grabbed a pair of flannel pants and a white T-shirt and walked into the bathroom to change. The mirrors were once again fogged up, but there was no steam or hot air anywhere. Kitsu changed his clothes and walked back out.
He walked over to his bed and noticed there was a cat curled up at the foot of the bed. He sat down next to it and noticed Waza walk out of the bathroom in a pair of linen shorts and a high cut T-shirt. She sat down on her bed.
"I see you finally go back. What do you think of the school?"
"It looks good so far. I guess he is what you were drawing before." Kitsu said pointing to the cat.
"Yea, and it's a she by the way. I've named her Kukki.... what the hell..." Waza began as she reached down her shirt and pulled out another manual pencil sharpener.
"The least they could have done was pack my art supplies and clothes separately."
"Yea, it would make for a lot less of these awkward situations." Kitsu said while petting Kukki.
"Looks like you two are getting along well. Maybe I can join you for a bit... and maybe have a little fun while we're at it." Miwaku said, more directed at Waza than Kitsu.
Waza opened up her sketch pad and flipped around looking for a certain page.
"Here it is." she said as she pulled out a can of mace.
"Oh, crap." Miwaku said as he watched her point the can at his face.
"I'll just leave you two alone then." Miwaku said as he backed off.
"Good idea." Waza replied.
"So, what was I going to say before.... oh yea. What are your abilities?" Waza asked.
"I can build things, take this for example." Kitsu said as he reached into his bag and pulled out a little robot with a clamp for a hand. "I use this little guy to hold things in place for me while i work. There's also this." he said as he pulled out a pair of goggles. "It calculates measurements, angles, anything geometrical, you just have to think of what you want. Try it out."
Waza put on the goggles. She started to draw and was making perfect lines and circles, and when she finished the drawing it looked amazing.
"Wow, this is amazing!" she said.
"Huh? sorry, I missed what you said, I was to distracted by that over there." Kitsu said.
He pointed over to Miwaku being hung by his ankles by a shadow coming out of the wall.
"Now I know what she meant when she said not to get on her bad side." Kitsu said.
Kitsu looked over at his clock. It read 12:30 AM. Boruto and Kichou had already fallen asleep. Waza was the only girl who was actually up and about. The rest pretended to sleep, keeping one eye open to make sure Miwaku wasn't up to anything. Kitsu worked on schematics well into the night. He had just gotten an idea for making a mod that allows for extended reach. It attaches to the user's forearm and he controls it as though it was his own hand, using a joystick to extend and retract the hand.
Waza on the other hand fell asleep while working on a new drawing. It was late enough that even Miwaku was asleep, so the girls could finally get some rest. Kitsu tried to look at what Waza had begun to draw, but he could only see the corner, since she had the pad clutched in her arms. Kukki looked up at Kitsu, and then jumped up on the bed. She curled up beside him and fell asleep. Kitsu set his alarm, lied back, and fell asleep.
He awoke to the sound of his alarm at 7:00 AM. Everyone was still asleep. He grabbed a some clothes out of his dresser and walked into the bathroom. He took a shower, changed his clothes and walked back out. He noticed a slip of paper had been slid under the door. He walked over and looked at it. It read "You have all been invited to a party in the auditorium at 8:00PM, and it will be a great way to get together with everyone, and even meet some new people. Hope you can attend".
Kitsu decided to work on his schematics more until everyone else woke up. At 10:00AM, heavy metal began blaring out of Boruto's alarm, at which point everyone woke up, because it was too loud not to be heard all over campus. Everyone started to make their way to the bathroom to get dressed and shower.
As she walked out of the bathroom, towel around her hair from just taking a shower, Waza noticed the invitation slip on top of Kitsu's dresser. She walked over and picked it up. As she read it her eyes lit up with excitement.
"Hey everybody, party in the auditorium at 8:00!" she called to everyone.
"Perfect, a chance for me to work on my moves with the ladies......" Miwaku said.
"Why is everyone staring at me, oh shoot, did I just say that out loud? Well, you all knew I was thinking it so, yea. Will you people stop looking at me!?" he continued.
"I can't wait to hit the dance floor. Maybe I'll actually find someone who doesn't have two left feet for a change." Yakedo said.
"Ugh, I despise dancing. I'd rather just watch my shadows than dance myself." Anei replied.
"Sounds like it's going to be fun, and I'll get to meet more people." Kitsu said.
"We got a long time till then though, what are we going to do to kill time?" Koori asked.
"I got some soda cans in the mini fridge my parents sent up. At lest it will kill a few minutes." Boruto said.
Everyone grabbed a soda from the mini fridge and sat down. Waza opened up her sketch pad and started drawing, while Kukki curled up in Kitsu's lap. Misuto walked into the bathroom with a hair brush and make-up. Boruto started blasting metal from his radio. Anei sat down in a corner to play with the shadows while Miwaku, learning his lesson from last time, just watched her from a distance.
"Isn't she amazing?" Miwaku said to Kitsu.
"Yea, to think she can actually control the shadows like that. It's incredible." Kitsu replied.
"No, not that, i mean her looks. She's got it all. Now if only I could get her to actually like me...." Miwaku said.
"You seriously have no luck with women, do you?" Kitsu replied.
"I'd do a lot better if I used my powers, but I'm not the kind of guy to take advantage of a girl like that. I take what I can get and try to get more legit." Miwaku replied.
"So how do you explain the womens room incident yesterday?" Kitsu asked.
"Still legit man, a little low, but still legit. I have the powers of persuasion. I can persuade people to do or think just about anything. I can make people believe the strangest things, but i rarely use my powers, unless i absolutely have to." Miwaku said.
"I see. Have you ever tried just being nice to the girls and stopped acting like your obviously just looking for some action?" Kitsu asked.
"Yea, but they didn't believe me. It's more fun this way though. You gonna drink that soda? Looks like it should be warm by now man." Miwaku replied.
"Oh yea, forgot about it." Kitsu takes a sip of his soda. "Ick, it is warm."
"Here, give it to me, I'll cool it off for you." Koori said.
Kitsu gave her the can. She held it in her hand and it slowly formed a thin layer of ice around the can.
"Here you go." she said.
"Thanks." Kitsu replied. He went to drink the soda and realized it was frozen solid.
"I guess I'll just wait for this to thaw out then." Kitsu said disappointed.
"Finished!" Waza said in excitement as she walked over to Kitsu.
"Finished what?" Kitsu asked.
"Check this out." Waza said as she reached into her pad. She pulled out a long pink dress. "This is what I'm going to wear tonight, what do you think?" Waza asked.
"Looks nice, but didn't your parents pack any formal clothes?" Kitsu asked.
"Nah. They didn't think I'd need apparently. If not for all those pads, I'd be pretty screwed for tonight." Waza replied.
Anei, apparently finished playing with the shadows, grabbed some dress clothes out of her dresser and walked into the bathroom. Most of the other girls followed in suit. Kitsu looked at his clock and noticed it was 7:00 PM.
"Wow, time sure does fly." he said. He opened up his dresser and pulled out a burgundy dress shirt, black dress slacks, and a black and burgundy tie. He walked into the bathroom and changed. He freshened up and put on a bit of cologne. He walked out and it looked like everyone was all set to leave.
Waza was wearing the pink dress she had shown Kitsu earlier. Misuto was wearing a long white dress that fell just above her ankles. Yakedo wore a red mini skirt with a glossy red top. Anei wore a long, elegant black dress. Koori wore a light blue dress that fell halfway up her calf. Miwaku wore a black tuxedo and a bow tie. Boruto somehow managed to squeeze his bulging muscles into a long tailored jacket and a white polo shirt underneath. Kichou wore a Oxford shirt and black tie with black dress slacks, pocket protectors once again included.
The group walked down to the auditorium and were amazed at how well it was put together. There was a DJ booth in the back, some buffets along the wall, and the rest was a massive dance floor. Everyone went their separate ways. Miwaku hit the dance floor looking to nit it off with the ladies, Yakedo and Koori got on the dance floor as well, as far away from Miwaku as possible of course. Boruto and Kichou hit the buffet. Misuto walked off towards the back of the auditorium, and Anei sat off to the side and watched.
Kitsu walked up to Anei, who was obviously a bit troubled at this point.
"Whats wrong?" he asked.
"I've never been much for dancing, I mean, I'm just no good at it. I prefer to dance with the shadows and learn from them anyway." Anei replied.
"It's not about being good at dancing, it's just about having a good time." Kitsu replied.
"I don't know, this music is a little too fast for me anyway." Anei answered
"I'll be right back." Kitsu said.
Kitsu walked up to the DJ in the back.
"Could you put on something slow after this song?" Kitsu asked.
"Sure thing man. I guess you got a special lady in mind to dance with, eh? Go for it." the DJ replied.
Kitsu walked back over to Anei, and as he did, the song changed to something much slower.
"Is this slow enough for you?" he asked.
"Yes, but that still doesn't fix that I can't dance." Anei answered.
"It doesn't matter, I won't think any less of you, no matter what happens out there. Just give it a try. Everything will be just fine, trust me." Kitsu said.
"I still don't know...." Anei replied cautiously.
"What's the worst that can happen, you step on my foot and I get over it. So come on and dance." Kitsu said.
"I guess you're right."she replied.
Anei and Kitsu walked out onto the dance floor. He put his arm around her waist and held her hand as they began to waltz. Despite her fears, Anei danced surprisingly well. The way she moved reminded Kitsu of how the shadows danced along the wall. Anei began to blush as she realized she was dancing again for the first time in years, and it was all thanks to Kitsu. By the end of the song, Kitsu noticed everyone was staring at them. The entire auditorium burst into applause. Yakedo walked up to Kitsu shortly after everyone went back to dancing.
"That's the first time she has danced in years. She's always sat off to the side every time something like this comes up, and no one could ever convince her to get up and dance. There must be something special about you. I mean, look at her. She's still blushing, and its been how long since she was out dancing with you? You're really something kid." Yakedo said.
"Just knowing she had fun today makes me feel like I've accomplished something." Kitsu replied.
"I think she had more than just fun, I mean look at her. I haven't seen her this happy in years. If you keep this up, I wouldn't be surprised if she fell head over heels for you. She's been distant from everyone for so long, I hope she finally opens up a little. I think you're one of the few guys out there who actually cares about her. most guys don't even notice her. Not many people go out of their way for her like that." Yakedo replied.
"What about Miwaku?" Kitsu asked.
"Him? You've gotta be kidding. We both know what he's getting at." Yakedo said.
"Speaking of Miwaku, he isn't really all that bad of a guy. I wouldn't judge him just yet."
"Oh I know. At heart he really cares, but he just acts so shallow all the time. It's just annoying." Yakedo said.
"I'll talk to you later. I'm going to hit the dance floor some more." Yakedo continued.
Kitsu walked up to the DJ in the back.
"Thanks for the favor earlier. Could you put on something more up beat this time?" Kitsu asked.
"Sure thing man. Nice going with Anei dude. You just proved miracles exist by pulling that one off." the DJ replied.
The music changed to a very upbeat rave song as Kitsu walked out onto the dance floor. The lights suddenly started to strobe, but they weren't strobe lights, they were the normal lights in the auditorium. "Heh. He's still working behind the scenes." someone muttered. The DJ picked up the mike. "Thank you Bekutoru for the light show!"
The rave song continued to play, and Kitsu noticed a student in a black tailored jacket wearing a pink dress shirt underneath descend from the stairs leading to the rafters. Kitsu approached him, making his way through the mass crowd.
"Hey, you must be Bekutoru. Nice job with the lights." Kitsu said.
"Thanks. You're new here right? What's your name?" Bekutoru asked.
"Kitsu, nice to meet you."
"So, where are you rooming?" Bekutoru asked.
"502. What about you?" Kitsu answered.
"503. I guess I'll be seeing you around, I've gotta get back to work. DJ Benzaiten wants me to do more light effects. I just thought I'd drop down to see how things were going." Bekutoru replied as he ran back upstairs.
After a long night of dancing, everyone went back to their rooms at 2:00AM, all tired as hell. Anei was still giddy from dancing with Kitsu. It's probably the happiest she had been in a long time. Everyone else was exhausted. The girls fell right to sleep, aside from Anei, who couldn't get over her happiness. Miwaku was out like a light, and everyone else fell asleep as soon as they got in their beds. Most didn't even bother changing out of their clothes. The same went for Kitsu. Eventually, even Anei went to sleep.
The next morning they were awoken by an announcement over the loud speaker system.
"Sergeant Tenma will be visiting the campus. I know you all resent him, but we can't just turn down the military. Please at least be somewhat respectable."
"What was that all about?" Kitsu asked.
"Tenma makes a trip up here with only one goal in mind, recruitment. He gets students to join his forces by any means necessary. Some have even suspected him of taking students against their will, using threats or blackmail. I really do hate that man." Yokedo said.
"Not much we can do but wait for him to leave. He usually only stays one day so we just have to deal with it and move on." Boruto said.
Everyone grabbed clothes from their dressers and walked into the bathroom to change. There was a restless mood running throughout the school. The moment of truth had finally arrived. At 1:00PM a voice came over the loud speaker. "Sergeant Tenma has arrived. Please be on your best behavior". With that everyone walked downstairs to greet him and hear what scam he was going to use to try to get recruits this time. He was standing in the front door with a cohort.
"Hello everyone. It's so nice to be here again. I've brought your friend Nikku with me. Now, on to why I am here. I have come to try to convince some of you to join the military. We offer well paying jobs, special training programs, and a chance to serve your country. It would be a great honor to have you serve under our command. Did I mention we'll also be providing you with a special care package along with a $60 gift certificate to Shop-Mart when you sign up? I'll be around campus so just let me know if you want to join."
"You are free to return to your rooms now." said a voice over the PA system.
The students returned to their rooms, and Kitsu thought this would be a perfect time to visit Bekutoru. He walked over to room 503 and knocked on the door. A young girl called out from the other side.
"Who is it?" she asked.
"It's Kitsu, is Bekutoru around?" Kitsu replied
"Sure, come on in." she said.
The door unlocked and Kitsu walked inside.
"What do you know, it the miracle worker." said Benzaiten.
"Hey Kitsu, whats up?" Bekutoru said.
"Not much, just stopped by to say hello." Kitsu replied.
"We'll, you couldn't have come at a better time. I need someone to test out my new game" Bekutoru said.
"Sure, sounds cool." Kitsu replied enthusiastically.
Bekutoru booted up his laptop and opened the game. As the game loaded, the computer froze and a blue error screen appeared.
"Windows, you suck." he said as he put his hand on the screen. his hand started to glow and Windows fixed itself and resumed what it had been doing.
"Where was I? Oh yea, the point of the game is to make your way as high in the tower as possible, using enemies and wall jumps for leverage and to propel yourself. You will be constantly chased up the tower by a field of electric energy, so you can't afford to mess up. Lets see how you do." Bekutoru said.
Kitsu started playing the game and caught on fast. Bekutoru watched in awe as Kitsu nearly flew up the tower and the electric field was lost far below. Eventually the rest of the roommates crowded around the tiny laptop to watch Kitsu's score rise past the maximum score limit.
"Oh my, he's amazing!" one girl said.
"Seriously. Wait a minute, isn't this the guy who was dancing with Anei last night?" the other said.
"I'm Etai." One of the girls said. She had long hair that curled around her like ivy. She had hazel eyes and wore a green T-shirt. She had a very calming feel to her.
"I'm Kaze." the other girl said. She had wavy light brown hair. She wore a white T-shirt and white shorts.
Their conversation was cut short by a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Kaze asked.
"It Nikku. Let me in."
"I'm not letting a sellout like you in here. Beat it." Kaze replied
"If you don't let in, I break door in....pieces." Nikku said stubbornly.
"Just let the oaf in. He's gonna get in either way so might as well avoid property damage." Benzaiten said.
Kaze opened the door. Nikku walked in. He looked a lot like Burotu, but even more buff, almost as if it was Burotu on steroids. His face was different though. It was a lot more squared off and unforgiving.
"I here to recruit. You..." he said pointing at Kitsu, "...come with me or I break face."
"You think you can just barge in here and tell me what to do? Heh, you don't know what you're up against." Kitsu said as he strapped on the mod he had just finished building a few days before. It was a mod that added more speed and packed more to a punch. He started up his rocket blades and got ready for a fight. Nikku charged at Kitsu. Kitsu sped around him and landed a solid hit to his side. Nikku, now angry, began chasing Kitsu around the halls outside the room. They ran laps around the fifth floor, until suddenly there was a flash and the pounding of Nikku's feet stopped. Kitsu turned around and saw Boruto standing over Nikku's unconscious body. "Told you I got your back." he said.
"Thanks man, I don't think I would have come out of that alive if you didn't stop him." Kitsu said.
"No problem, I'll see you around." Boruto replied.
Boruto walked off down the hall while Kitsu walked back to room 503. Everyone looked in awe as Kitsu walked back in the room.
"You're alive!" Kaze said.
"You truly are a miracle man." Benzaiten commented.
"Tenma's up to something. He sent Nikku up here to take people by force this time. He usually resorted to blackmail or threats. He has never used physical force before. He's desperate. Maybe I can tap into the PA system to see what he's really up to." Bekutoru said.
He looked up at the PA box. He turned on the PA system all over the school, everyone could hear everything going on in the administration office.
"Now, I need at least twenty new recruits to meet my quota. If I do not get what I want today, it will be your job to make up the difference. If I don't have my recruits by Sunday, I will be here at your door, ready to blow this place apart. Have a nice week. I will see you on Sunday."
The transmission cut off after that. The group was in shock. They were not prepared for what they had just overheard.
"We have to do something, anything. This must be stopped." Kitsu said.
"There's nothing we can do, not now anyway." Benzaiten said.
"There must be something we can do!" Kitsu replied.
"The only way we can win this is in one shot, we wait until he comes to us, and take him out. There's no other way. It's not like we know where he is." Benzaiten said.
"I don't like the sound of this. I've never been one for fighting." Bekutoru said.
"You just take care of the technical stuff, we'll handle the combat." Kitsu said.
"Sounds good. Maybe you should talk up a battle plan with your roommates Kitsu. Hell, they're more combat oriented than we are." Benzaiten said.
"Sure. I'll head back over there now." Kitsu said as he walked out.
As he walked in, he realized everyone was still in shock. Waza was just staring at a blank page in her note pad. Anei was watching her shadows pace back and forth. Koori and Yakedo were talking about what they had just heard.
"We need to come up with a plan." Kitsu said.
"There's nothing we can do right now. We don't even know where he is or what he's planning on doing if things don't go his way. We have to take things as they come I guess." Boruto said.
"It's been a long day. I'm going to get some sleep. Tenma's gone now so I don't have to worry about being attacked anymore. I'll see you guys tomorrow." Kitsu said.
He walked to the bathroom and changed into a pair of flannel pants and a T-shirt. He walked out of the bathroom and climbed into bed. He looked at his clock. It read 11:30PM. He wasn't the only one getting ready for a good night sleep. Everyone seemed to be asleep by 12:00AM.
Kitsu awoke to Anei sitting in a chair next to him, Kukki curled up in her lap. She had been watching him sleep through most of the night. Kitsu looked at his clock, which read 6:00AM.
"What are you doing Anei?" Kitsu mumbled.
"I couldn't sleep. Decided to sit down and pet the cat for a while. I find it relaxing"
"By the way." Anei began, "Thanks for everything you did for me at the dance, I really appreciate it. Is there anything I could do to repay you, maybe treat you to lunch or something?"
"Thats okay, you don't have to do anything for me. Just seeing you smile made it worth it." Kitsu replied.
Kitsu got out of bed and walked into the bathroom to freshen up. He took a nice relaxing shower. No matter how hard he tried, Kitsu couldn't get his mind off of what had happened the other day. He couldn't get over the fact there was nothing he could do, but they were right, he couldn't do anything until the final moments.
Kitsu walked out of the bathroom after getting dressed to find everyone wide awake. Anei was off playing with the shadows as usual, Waza was drawing in her sketch pad, Miwaku was making advances on Koori, and failing miserably, Kichou was running a flight simulator on his laptop, Boruto was listening to metal from his radio, and Misuto was giving herself a foot massage. Yakedo was no where to be seen. Kitsu sat down on his bed and worked on building a mod. He hadn't figured out a use for it yet, but he needed something to take his mind off of their impending doom.
After about two hours of work, he finally finished. It was a small metal box. With the push of a button, a piston fired up out of it with incredible force. "There's gotta be something I can use this for..." Kitsu thought. Just then there was a knock at the door.
"Hey guy's. I just want to let you know I'm throwing a party in 503 at 5:00 if you want to stop by. Hell, we need something to keep us busy until tomorrow, right?" Benzaiten said from the other side of the door.
Waza's eyes lit up as she heard him mention a party, and Anei started to get giddy again at the thought of possibly having the chance to dance with Kitsu again. Miwaku was just happy he'd at least have some chance with the girls at the party, and Boruto was looking forward to the food. Kitsu couldn't stop thinking about tomorrow. It hadn't occurred to him that today was Saturday. All the girls rushed into the bathroom to get ready, even though there was still a good four hours until the party started.
Kitsu continued tweaking his mod to pass the time. He continued tweaking his mod, allowing it to reset itself and activate via remote control. By the time he was finished it was almost time for the party. He freshened up and walked over to room 503.
As Kitsu opened the door, he saw that Benzaiten went all out for this. He had his DJ booth set up, a fog machine in one corner, and a strobe in the other. As the others walked in the door, Benzaiten motioned to Kitsu. Kitsu walked over to him.
"Hey man, you gonna dance with Anei again? I know you want to." Benzaiten said.
"Yea. I think she's fallen for me since that night." Kitsu replied.
"How can you tell?" Benzaiten asked.
"Just by the way she's been acting." Kitsu said.
"Alright, I'll put on something slow for you guys. Good luck man." Benzaiten said.
"Lucks got nothing to do with it." Kitsu muttered as he walked off.
As Kitsu walked over to Anei, Benzaiten put on "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" and they hit the dance floor. Just like before, Anei danced marvelously, twirling and sliding with elegance. After the song ended, Anei leaned in and kissed Kitsu on the cheek. He was caught completely by surprise. The room burst into applause as Benzaiten congratulated them on officially being a couple from this point on.
Benzaiten switched to some techno as Bekutoru started to work the lights. Miwaku hit the floor and tried to work his moves on Etai and Kaze. Not even halfway through the song he walked off the dance floor with a slap mark on each cheek.
"How bout that, two for the price of one." he said cheerfully.
Kitsu noticed Koori sitting alone at the side of the room. Kitsu walked over to her.
"Why are you over here by yourself?" he asked.
"I just can't stop thinking about tomorrow. I mean, what if we screw up, what if he does blow this place apart? I mean, it IS the military we're up against here." Koori replied.
"Don't worry, we'll figure something out when the time comes. We won't let him touch this place. Just try to have fun while your here. The whole reason we're here is to take our minds off of the task at hand." Kitsu said
"I guess you're right. Thanks, I needed that." Koori replied.
Koori got up and walked out on to the dance floor. Kitsu sat down for a bit to collect his thoughts. He started running strategies through his head, preparing for the day ahead of him. Anei saw him there and walked over.
"Want to dance?" she asked.
"Sure." he replied.
Kitsu and Anei walked into the middle of the room and began to dance. While they danced, Anei manipulated the shadows, forming duplicates of themselves all over the room. Kitsu looked on in awe. Their shadow copies moved with the same elegance that the shadows she always played with had. It was incredible. She kissed him again after they finished dancing.
After a long night of fun, everyone returned to their rooms for a good night sleep. They needed to be ready for the fateful moment when Tenma arrived. Kitsu looked at his clock, which read 11:59PM. The second it hit 12:00AM, a voice boomed throughout the building.
"Hello Haburi High! I have returned to get my recruits! Send them out now, or face an army of automated tanks!"
Kitsu thought quickly. He ran to 503 and told everyone to meet in the main hall. He ran back to 502 and rallied everyone, leading them to the main hall. He thought up a battle plan.
"Here is how it's going to work. Anei, you form clones of yourself to distract them. I'll try to use my mods to take out Tenma directly. Benzaiten, help add to the distraction somehow. Kibouchu, find something to drive, use it to distract them or if you can, try to take out the tanks. Bekutoru, you can control computers right? How far away do you have to be?" Kitsu said.
"A few yards." Bekutoru replied.
"Crap, you're going to have to get pretty damn close to those tanks, and I think you're the only one who can take them out. Once you get near them, use your abilities to control them and have them attack each other. The rest of you cover Bekutoru. Lets move!" Kitsu said.
The group opened the front doors of the school and were greeted by a battalion of silver plated tanks. Tenma sat in his assault walker, a bipedal robot with chain-guns attached to its arms, and looked at the students.
"I see. So you are my new recruits eh? There's only about half the number I need. I'm sorry to say you're a little to late. You can still join if you like, but this school falls, end of story!" Tenma shouted.
"We're not here to be recruited, were here to make a stand! No one has the power to take this place down, not even the military. You made a big mistake coming here!" Kitsu responded.
With that, Anei formed hundreds of shadow clones of herself and charged the tanks. The tanks locked on the shadows and fired away, but it did no good, the shots went right through. While the tanks were distracted, Kitsu powered up his rocket blades and charged at Tenma. He nimbly outmaneuvered the turrets on Tenma's assault walker and made a flying kick at the cockpit.
While Kitsu was busy with Tenma, the rest of the students were trying to encourage Bekutoru, who was terrified at the thought of even getting anywhere near the tanks. Eventually Boruto got sick and tired of trying to convince him. He grabbed Bekutoru and lifted him onto his shoulders as he barreled towards the tanks.
Kitsu's kick landed perfectly and shattered the glass covering the cockpit of the assault walker. the assault walker stumbled back a few steps.
"We could have used someone like you in the military, boy. I bet that care package is looking real nice right now, isn't it." Tenma called out.
"You really don't get the picture do you. You're finished." Kitsu said.
Just as Kitsu said that, Bekutoru, who was screaming at the top of his lungs in fear, was in range of the tanks. It was his time to shine. Tenma watched in awe as his tanks all turned on each other at once, and blew themselves apart.
The sound of military choppers could be heard approaching in the distance. Tenma turned white as a ghost. He tried to get away in the mech, but Kitsu caught up with him and took it out with a well placed hit to the controls with his iron knuckle mod. The military choppers landed and military personnel filed out of them, surrounding Tenma.
"Tenma Oroka, you are under arrest for impersonating a military officer, kidnaping, and stealing military technology. Time to go back to the assylum where you belong." One of the officers said.
While the officer was surveying the scene, Kitsu stuck his newest mod, the one he still hadn't found a use for, to the inside of Tenma's thigh. Just as he expected, Tenma made a break for it. As he ran, Kitsu pushed the button on the remote for the mod. The piston fired up delivering a quick and painful blow to the groin. Tenma fell to the ground with a loud, high pitched scream that could be heard all around the school.
"I guess that mod had a use after all." Kitsu said as he laughed at Tenma curled up in a fetal position.
Miwaku came running up to Kitsu with an excited look in his eye.
"I did it! I did it!" he said.
"Yea, I know, we beat him." Kitsu replied.
"No no, not that. I finally found a girl who likes me! She thinks I'm actually funny!" Miwaku said.
"Wow, who?" Kitsu asked in anticipation.
"I don't think you ever saw this one coming man...." Miwaku said.
"Just spit it out already." Kitsu said impatiently.
"Yakedo! She actually likes me! Hahahahahaha!" Miwaku said as he burst into laughter.
"Wow, you're right, I didn't see that coming." Kitsu said surprised.
Everyone went back inside the school, happy that everything was finally resolved. The school administrator congratulated them all on the job well done.
"You all did wonderfully. It was an impressive display of how well you have all advanced, and it also gave me a good idea of where you are in terms of your abilities, Kitsu. From what I hear, you were actually the strategist behind it all. I have thank you somehow. I know, I will give everyone another week to get settled, to make up for this fiasco Tenma caused. Enjoy another week of freedom. School will start next Monday, so have a good week."
The administrator walked off as everyone returned to their rooms. Waza approached Kitsu.
"You really are something. You helped Anei get over her fears and got her to lighten up a bit, pulled everyone together in the worst of times, and even played a key role in getting rid of Tenma." Waza said.
Waza began to blush as she mumbled "I think I'm in love". Anei walked over blushing. "You really helped me over the past few days, and I really wish there was something I can do to repay you..." She began. As she started talking, Yakedo walked over. "Wow, you're having more luck than Miwaku ever did. You really ARE something special." She said. With that, both Waza and Anei yelled "He's mine"!
"Wha....?!?" Kitsu said.
"I'm staying far away from this one. You're on your own kid, but I'm sure you'll figure something out. You ARE the miracle man after all...." Yakedo said as she walked off towards Miwaku.
"This is going to be a long week, a very long week." Kitsu said as Waza and Anei tugged on his arms as if he were a rope in a game of tug of war.
