10 Best Boss Fights
In response to this overly general and vague article on the 20 best boss fights, I have created my own. Here is the link to the site with the original article (It is lag city, just warning you....) http://www.thephoenix.com/article_ektid24919.aspx
(Sorry all you ff7 fans, Sephi isnt on the list, mainly because I haven't gotten that far. I'll be sure to add him in somewhere once I do, but it might be a while)
And here begins my Top 10 Boss Fights Of All Time! (because 20 is 10 too much)
10: Bowser (Mario 64)
This battle was truly epic. The organ music in the background, the platform crumbling into the shape of a star, and just the whole mood of the battle itself. The first time I fought him, it was also a real pain to beat. The only reason it's not higher up on the list is why it was a pain. It wasn't because his attacks were hard to avoid, but far from it. It was the 3rd and final hit, just aiming your throw properly took practice, or luck. For me the first time was a bit of both.
9: Sigma (Megaman X)
This was one long fight. If not for the constant supply of enemies in the beggining of the level you could use to refill your energy tanks, I'm not sure I would have beaten him as soon as I did. The first 2 forms were fairly easy, and Megaman is one of the few games that deviates from the classic brutal first form, epic and easy second form formula. The third form was HELL! even with 3 of the energy tanks and all the health increases, I still had a lot of trouble the first time I played him. Even knowing his weakness didn't make things any easier (yes, he DOES have a weakness). It was kind of funny, because the first time I got to the third form, I thought it was over, so i went upstairs to go to the bathroom, and walk back down to watch X explode from Sigma's fire breath attack.
8: Ganon (Legend of Zelda, Ocarina Of Time)
Even moreso than most final battles, this one was truly epic. The music, the battle on the top of the ruined castle, everything. Only one problem. I found it extremely easy. I think I beat it on my first try actually. Ganondorf on the other hand, took me a few tries. But Ganon was a huge letdown after that. The final blow was pretty nice though....
7: Mother Brain (Super Metroid)
This was a fun fight. You start off the fight just like the classic duel, Mother brain in a glass case and you pumping it full of missiles. Just when you thought it was over.....she comes back with a body of her own! The real challenge from the fight came from not getting over confident. Although her attacks were fairly weak in comparison to previous bosses (mostly reffering to Ridley here), she had some tricks up her sleeve that would demolish the unsuspecting player. She used, what I like to call the uber death ray, draining numerous energy tanks, WITH NO WAY TO DODGE! Luckily, you get saved just before she deals the deathblow, and then get the HYBER BEAM! Now it's time to fight fire with fire, making the rest of the battle way too easy.
6: Culex (Mario RPG, Legend Of The Seven Stars)
Although Culex is not originally from the Mario series (I think he's from Lufia, not positive though...) he makes a cameo appearance just to fight Mario. In many ways, Culex is even harder than Smithy! Thanks to his crytal minions, he gets a whopping 5 attacks per turn, and hits hard, using attacks like Corona, Petal Rain, Fire Wall, and Dark Star, among many others. This fight is tough no matter how you look at it, unless you over level until it's a joke, but thats no fun. This battle is truly memorable just because of how difficult it was.
5: The End (MGS3)
The End was probably one of my least favorite bosses from MGS3, but this list isn't about favorites now is it? This guy took forever, and for an overweight elderly man, he OUTRAN SNAKE! He had the sniping skills of a god, and even surpassed those of Wolf in my oppinion. The thing that set this battle appart from the rest is that the hardest part was just finding him before he found you. I usually just used the d-mic and waited for him to fall asleep. Oh, and did I mention this took place over 3 seperate maps. Once you lost him, be prepared to scour the maps for him, because it's gonna take a while.
4: Sephiroth (Kingdom Hearts)
I lied! Sephiroth did make the list, but not for his appearance in FF7 due to my aforementioned reasons. He was a brutal fight in Kingdom Hearts, and I still haven't beaten him yet, possibly because I'm still underleveled, and I have no reaction speed whatsoever when it comes to stoping his sin harvest. It is still an epic and challenging fight, and it's difficulty ranks it up here more than anything (got so sick of that opening scene after about the 50th time watching it.....)
3: Magus (Chrono Trigger)
This one takes third for both challenge and setup. The intro to the fight was dramatic, the candles lighting up as you walked by them. The entire battle just had a feel of epic strugle to it. He was fairly challenging as well.
