"It's been a such a long time since we've had a nice dinner out like this. I wonder why we don't do this more often." Tom said as he began picking apart his steak.
"I've just been so busy lately that I haven't had the time. The firm has been giving me so much work that I can't even take a minute to breath anymore." Sarah replied, sleepily gazing at her salmon. After a few moments of silence, she looked up at Tom.
"Well, you're the one who wanted to meet me here, so what do you want?" she snapped.
Tom was a bit taken aback by her demeanor, but quickly composed himself.
"I was wondering, do you want to go do something this week? Maybe we could see that concert at Jones Beach." Tom replied enthusiastically.
"I'm busy, I just told you the firm has been working me like a dog, so what makes you think I have the time to take a whole day off to spend with you?" Sarah said with a groan as she started chewing.
"Well what about next week?" Tom asked.
"Can't, I've got business in Vegas all that week." she replied intermittently between chews.
"Any plans for the week after that?" Tom asked, keeping his hopes high.
Sarah slammed her fork down with a crash so loud that the small diner fell deathly quiet. She gulped down the large wad of fish she had been chewing and stared coldly at Tom. With a burning rage she reached across the table and grabbed Tom by the collar.
"Why do you always do this? You just keep asking the same damn question over and over getting the same damn answer, and you just keep asking until you hear what you want. It's pathetic, and it's embarrassing to me, so lets move on to something else, okay?" Sarah said through gritted teeth.
"But...but..." Tom stammered.
"No but, now drop it!" Sarah interrupted, now furious.
Sarah quickly looked at her watch, breathing a sigh of relief.
"I have to go. There's a business meeting I have to be at in a half hour, enjoy the rest of your steak Tom." Sarah said as she grabbed her shoulder bag.
Tom called out to her as she left, but Sarah paid no attention to him and continued out the door.
