Receptive Skills are a also large part of the interpreting practice. For one to producuce an accurate interpretaiton, one's receptive interpreation skills must be accurate as well. Receptive skills consists of one being able to identify fingerspelling/numbers, roleshifting, classifiers...etc. There are several links provided that one can practice for receptive interperting skills. Much of the video matierial consists of Deaf adults signing for informational/educational purposes. The videos range in length and each topic of discussion is different. As a mentor, I will have you (the mentee) voice the videos below. Each mentoring assignment (video) will have different goals for the you to work on! I will then have you watch the interpretation and note your thoughts (complete feedback questions located at the bottom of the page) after completion of the interpretation. I will then give you (the mentee) feedback and you to voice the material for the second time. As seen below, one section of the material provided is educational interpreting practices. The educational interpeting videos contain children signers. These practices can help one prepare for the EIPA (Educational Intepreter Performance Assessment).
At the bottom of this page, there are a list of questions that a mentee should view upon completion of each assignment. This will help you gather your thoughts regarding the assignment! Be ready to discuss your answers in our mentoring session! I can't wait to see what we can learn together in this process!
This video has an interpreter voicing over poritons of the video. Please put on silent!
