Lightsaber

Lightsaber

The Lightsaber is slightly more complicated. Like Luke’s hair and boots, and everything else the Lightsaber has several variations, in fact it boast no less than five different sculpt variations and six actual variations! These are shown below.

V.1 Lightsaber

The V.1 Lightsaber is by far the most common, found pretty much everywhere. It was the most common variation to be found in both the U.S. and in Europe.

V.2 Lightsaber

The V.2 Lightsaber is very similar to the V.3 Lightsaber with the exception of the colour. The two are infact sculpted differently also. This specific lightsabers main difference from the V.1 is that it lacks the depression in the hilt and the three buttons are therefore larger. These buttons are also touching each other. This Lightsaber has been called a possible Palitoy variation, however, it’s unlikely that either this or the V.3 where specific to Palitoy as both can be found in the U.S. making it more likely that they could both be found in the U.S. and Europe. I my self have acquired several of both which most likely came from U.K.

V.3 Lightsaber

The V.3 Lightsaber as said before is very similar to the V.2 but is actually sculpted slightly different. The main difference of the V.3 sabers is that they all appear to be molded in bright yellow plastic, this has lead to them often being referred to as ‘neon’ sabers. It should also be noted that both the V.2 and V.3 sabers are fractionally smaller than the other Lightsaber variations.

V.4 Lightsaber

The V.4 Lightsaber is totally different to the previous three, sporting a much wider hilt, a larger hilt guard and three large buttons which are separate from each other. These Lightsabers don’t share the level of production quality as the previous three either. It would appear that the V.4 Lightsaber is unique to Europe, I have seen at least one U.S. Kenner card packed with this saber, but to me the bubble edge was questionable and more than likely a reseal. Because of it’s importation from Spain, the Blonde Ledy featured this variation also, this being the only likely source of this version outside of Europe.

V.5 Lightsaber

The V.5 Lightsaber has the same sculpt as the V.4 saber but is made from a much paler almost translucent plastic and is unique to Lili Ledy. This is a hard variation to find like most of the Lili Ledy weapons. Although unique to Lili Ledy, it would appear that at some point Lili Ledy exported figures to Spain as Lili Ledy Bespin Lukes with LL blasters and Lightsabers have turned up on Spanish PBP cards. So, like the European V.4 saber turning up in Mexico because of the blonde LL Luke’s, the V.5 can also be found in Spain because of the brown haired LL Luke’s.

V.6 Lightsaber

The V.6 Lightsaber would so far appear to be the rarest of the sabers. I personally don’t own one my self, these pictures appear courtesy of Wolff (wbobafett). The saber it’s self appears to be authentic, and share’s a similar sculpt to the V.1 Saber, however on this specific version the hilt is fractionally longer and the depression smaller with smaller less defined buttons. The general texture of the plastic also appears more rough and stippled. The origins of this saber are so far uncertain, hopefully time will tell. Thanks again to Wolff for the picture.

Below are some comparison pictures of the different hilt sculpts for the different Lightsaber variations:

The picture below shows the very subtle difference in sculpt of the V.2 and V.3 Lightsabers, the placement of the buttons is different.
