Blaster

A Detailed Breakdown Of The Accessory Variations

Bespin Luke of course was armed with two accessories, a blaster and a Lightsaber, Kenner had of course moved away from the telescoping Lightsaber issued with the first wave of Star Wars figures and now opted for a much more desirable design.

Unfortunately it’s not quite as plain sailing as just simply a blaster and a saber though, as with everything else, there are variations, the blaster is actually pretty straight forward, the Lightsaber, not so. This section will look at the different variations of these accessories, particularly the Lightsaber and also focus on some of the reproduction weapons which should be avoided, with points on how to spot them.

Blaster

As far as the blaster is concerned, there is not a great deal to say really, there is numerous different variations of all the blaster as the T.I.G. homepage shows, to place one specific variation with one specific character solely would be damn near impossible with the exception of a mere hand full of characters. In the case of Bespin Luke, the vast majority of the figures, particularly those sold in the U.S. where armed with the blue smuggler blaster (V.1 Blaster shown above) almost across the board. This being said, finding a Bespin Luke armed with a blue/black blaster would not be anything to special. In Europe, the figure could be found with either the blue blaster or the blue/black blaster, the vast majority of the MIHK smoothed figures (i.e. caramel, chocolate & dark boots) where most commonly armed with the blue/black blaster.

There appears to be at least one variation of Bespin Luke that can be specifically associated with one specific variation of the smuggler blaster. It appears that the Blonde Lili Ledy Bespin Luke was armed with this variation of the smuggler blaster shown below:

The most notable difference on this specific variation is the small right angle of plastic found under the barrel (circled). This specific weapon is commonly associated with the blonde Ledy although absolute confirmation would be impossible because no carded example exist, the likelihood is high though. That been said, this specific variation is not unique to this figure and can be found elsewhere, namely in Europe.

The final blaster variation that requires mention is of course the Rebel blaster that was issued with the Mexican Lili Ledy figures. Because the Lili Ledy company didn’t produce the smuggler blaster (the afore mentioned versions where imported) they issued there figures with alternate weapons. In the case of Bespin Luke he was issued with a blue Rebel blaster. It’s important to know that it’s not just any old Rebel blaster but a specific one unique to Lili Ledy, the handle is short and fat and the over all texture of the gun is usually quite rough and stippled as can be seen below:

Like all original Ledy accessories these guns are quite hard to find, which is why care should always be taken when purchasing Ledy figures, and a reliable dealer is always your best bet. Finding the correct weapons later on can be quite difficult if you get stung with the wrong one first. Ozio’s your man here for quality guaranteed Ledy!
