During the Weston 2nd alarm today there was a interesting comment from
the dispatcher -
"Fire Alarm to Command, I cannot hear Operations when he transmits"
From then on, Operations was heard coming over the repeater.
Apparently the dispatcher could hear Command talking on the repeater,
but Ops was not on the repeater. Apparently Ops was on simplex (on the
output of the repeater). Fire Alarm realized this, and gave them a
heads up to fix the situation. (If the dispatcher could not hear Ops,
there was the possibility that the dispatcher could talk right over
Ops and never realize it).
I dont know if they were actually on UHF or VHF. In any case, it seems
that all repeater traffic was coming thru both repeaters - 470.1625 R
DPL 172 + 154.16 R PL 94.8
Lets assume that Command and Ops were actually using UHF radios. To
operate on the repeater, their portable radios would transmit on
473.1625 and receive on 470.1625. To operate on simplex / talkaround /
direct, a portable would probably transmit AND receive on 470.1625.
All right? Peter Sz
