Possible problems with digital (P25) radios
1. P25 radios have problems in high noise environments - apparently
the audio degrades when there is background noise - [21 Feb 2010 - see the P25 list at yahoogroups.com for info on new Motorola software that cuts noise - and info on vocoder changes]
2. P25 radios might go completely silent if two P25 radios transmit at
the same time (double)
3. P25 radio coverage does not degrade gracefully - it falls off a
cliff - at the edges of the system coverage area, the signal is either
100% or 0%
4. P25 radios might have shorter range than analog radios - I have
seen confliciting info about this
5. P25 radios are the most expensive radios
6. There is a possibility that P25 radios could cause health problems
that analog radios do not cause. Only time will tell.
7. P25 radios might be more difficult to repair - ????
8. P25 radios might have shorter battery life - ???
[9. Is it possible that P25 synchronized simulcast does not work as well as analog synchronized simulcast? Feb 21 2010]
Corrections? Errors? Additional Info?
