Middle Eocene, Lutetian, Brussel Sand Formation, 40.4-48.6 Ma, Brussels region is quite complex with many formations, Bolderberg(Miocene),Sint-Huibrechts, Maldegem, Lede, Brussels, Gent, Tielt, Kortrijk.
Travelling from Antwerp the hills and valleys in and around Brussels are obvious. Where the hills have a high grade of decalcification, which results in fi the Brussels Sands laying at the near surface with minimal macro fossils, valleys like the Woluwe region, named after the river, yield more macro fossils as the fossils sands are better protected from the rains, the elements, but the layers lay deeper.
