Lewiston-Altura squared off with the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs in the 2013 season opener. The Bulldogs were able to come away with a 29-6 victory in what could be the final meeting between these teams for some time due to the new Southern Football Alliance.
The Cards jumped on the scoreboard first on a 3-yd TD run in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. It proved to be a short-lived lead though as the Bulldogs answered on the very next play from scrimmage with a long TD run to take the lead 7-6. PEM struck again quickly after an L-A punt to take a 13-6 lead. L-A drove the field and got to the one-foot line, but PEM came up with a huge interception in the end zone to halt the Cards scoring drive. The Bulldogs again struck quickly with a long pass to take a 19-6 lead. The Cards were able to put a field goal on the board to pull with 19-9, but too many turnovers cost the Cards in the end. L-A lost the turnover battle 4-0, which proved to be too difficult to overcome.
L-A hosts Pine Island next Friday in their first game against a divisional opponent in the new SFA.
