Congratulations to the Le Conte Eagles A team who made it to the Los Angeles Region Championship Tournament. Levon and Joseph led on the competition mat with Segun bringing program support. Paola provided research strength. Core values were showcased by John and Samuel. While David and Anthony cheered their team on throughout and delivered their presentation like masters. Amazing Job!
It was a red carpet affair at the Academy of Motion Pictures, when the Spark mentoring students got to premier their fall mentor projects. The audience was taken to the Prom through costume design, brought to dance through an experimental music and art video. The audience fell in love with Hermione and Ron's first date, was frightened by the creature in the basement and found holiday spirit in original scripts brought to life on the screen. There was laughter as the sack of flour shook off the fall and a tear as Peter Pan brought hope to a young girl again. They even learned a bit about the oceans and importance of sports thanks to documentaries. There is so much talent, can't wait to see what comes out during next semester.
The Le Conte Tech Squad and Science Olympiad joined together to learn how to build devices to listen for illegal logging in Brazil's rain-forests. With the help of Rainforest Connections founder, Topher White, the students converted old cell phones to solar powered listening devices that broadcast the sounds of the rainforest over the internet. They ran wires, fit pieces and even soldered. At the end of the quick session, they had completed a Rainforest Guardian of their own which can be sent to help protect the rain-forests.
