8th grade awards night highlights SAS students' work
The 8th grade awards ceremony was held on May 30, 2012 to honor the accomplishments of Le Conte's graduating class. Gold sashes for the Principal's Honor Roll were given to students with a perfect 4.0 GPA including Nancy Cappa, Brian James Cortina, Ashley Enriquez-Soto, and Vanessa Garcia. Gold cords were awarded to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.75-3.99 including Movses Ashimyan, Harout Baghdasaryan, Levon Baghdasaryan, Edgar Cotom-Perez, Mary Jane Diaz, Avo Lepedzyan, Frank Lorenzana, Victor Luna, Jeremy Saldivar, Julissa Tenas Mejia, and Estefania Valencia. Silver cords were presented to Jesus Bolaoen, Daniel Ceron, Lisandro Hernandez, Samantha Jamies, Nayeli Juarez, Rafa Linos, Yobani Mendez, David Mkrtchyan, Vanessa Pantoja, Mild Phuanthong, Kevin Prudencio, Lorrianne Ruiz, Alina Sahakyan, Kevin Santos, and Esmeralda Zambrano for achieving a GPA of 3.5-3.74. Additional honors in various categories recognized academics, athletics, and citizenship.

A big thanks to 8th grade Leadership students who acted as tour guides: Levon B., Samantha M., Jessica P., and Beatrice T. Thanks also to Ms. Woodward and students Ashley E. and Estefania V. for giving a presentation about the SAS program, Ms, Astorga and students Julissa T. and George C. for demonstrating what our band has to offer, Mr. Dziepak and student Jonathan H. for showing how awesome our Science Olympiad and LEGO Robotics teams are. We look forward to some Silver Hawks becoming Le Conte EAGLES!
Hunger Games opening day movie trip!
Since everyone was reading the book, and the fantastic ArcLight theater is just a few blocks away, Ms. Cheung, Mr. Darce, and Ms. Woodward escorted a group of 8th grade SAS students to the first showing after school on opening day of The Hunger Games. Everyone loved the movie (but agreed the book was better). Only one tribute, Frank L., was hunted on the way back!
SAS students run the LA Marathon
Congratulations to Ileana Lemus and Vanessa Pantoja for completing the LA Marathon! After training all year, students ran 26.2 miles from Downtown LA through Hollywood and ended at the beach.
SAS takes 1st and 2nd place in Pi Day
SAS homerooms came in first and second in the Pi memorization contest. Jesus Bolaeon recited 182 digits of Pi in front of the whole school during the Pi day assembly. Ashley Enriquez came in second with 171 digits memorized. Great job!
The two advisory classes shared in a lunch time pizza "pi" party to celebrate as a reward!
Le Conte competes in first Science Olympiad, led by SAS students and teachers
Le Conte competed in their first Science Olympiad at Occidental College on Feb 25, 2012. Led by 8th grade teacher Ms. Woodward and 7th grade teacher Mr. Dziepak (and assisted by Ms. Lester and Mr. Uhler) the team beat all other teams competing for their first year and half of the returning teams. Julio Alvarenga, Jesus Bolaoen, Nancy Cappa, Brian James Cortina, Ashley Enriquez, Vanessa Garcia, Lisandro Hernandez, Frank Lorenzana, and Estefania Valenica represented SAS.
