If you would like specific feedback on your academic writing skills, you can submit a piece of writing to the LDC, following the instructions shown below. An Academic Development Tutor (ADT) will read and comment on approximately 500 words, adding short comments to the margin of the text.
You will also receive a more detailed feedback matrix that indicates on which aspects of written, academic English require further development.
Together with your individual feedback, you will receive materials and suggestions for materials for self-study and details where you can get help if you have further questions.
You can submit
an unmarked text you have written for a forthcoming academic assignment.
an unmarked text prepared specifically for the writing test.
Please look at the specific instructions for both options before sending your text.
The text has to
be written in an academic style as part of your current university course.
use sources and referencing.
be written by you individually (i.e. not as a group project).
Please submit the complete text, including bibliography. The ADT can then look at short pieces of text from different sections, as this gives a better overview of your writing.
Please write a commentary on two textbooks you have recently used. The text should:
briefly introduce each textbook (its main topic, structure, purpose).
explain how each of them is related to your course.
compare and evaluate the two.
be appropriately referenced.
be written in an impersonal style (avoid “I think the book is…”).
Please send your writing sample in an email to LDC_HLS@gcu.ac.uk.
