English for Academic Purposes (EAP) refers to the language and associated practices that people need in order to undertake study or work in English medium higher education. This is not the same as teaching students to read, speak or write in English but instead focuses on the specific skills that students require in an academic context. Developing your reading and writing skills are essential for both success at GCU and in your future professional career. Improving your English language skills while you are studying will not only help you get better results, but will also significantly boost your employability.
We run a number of workshops each trimester, many of these workshops will help you to improve your academic writing skills. You can find a list of current workshops and details of how to book a workshop here.
Our website is continually updated with new materials so keep checking here for online resource updates that will aid you in developing your EAP skills.
The SHLS LDC also provides one-to-one support with personalised feedback for EAP. The focus is very much on self-study to aid you in developing the skills you need to become an independent learner.
