Grading Policy

Grades are calculated using these Categories for all courses (except for Art 3_AP Studio Art Portfolio)

Coursework: 70% of your overall grade

Homework: 10% of your overall grade

Process: 20% of your overall grade ( What is Process? See “Course Expectations” )

Policy

• Each assignment is weighted differently within those percentage categories. For example: a 3 week assignment will weigh 3 x more than a one week project. That grade weight will then be averaged into its appropriate category. The category scores are then calculated for your final grade.

• Process grades will be averaged in at Midterm and at Term.

• All grades are based on clear criteria using rubrics. Yes!, there will be a few assessments and exams!

• Most work is completed in class. The student is given appropriate time to get their class assignments finished. However, students are welcome to work at home, during study halls and after school. Check the class calendar for available after school studio time.

• You are responsible for all due dates, studio time and class material in the case of absence. In the case of illness or extraneous circumstances, please see Ms. Burke. Choose a student in the class that you can exchange emails or phone numbers with.

• All class work will have deadlines which are posted. Be sure to record them. Any late class work will loose a whole letter grade per day.

• There is homework that is assigned. You can expect 1/2 to 1 hour a week, on average. All late homework receives an automatic 50/100 points. After 1 week it receives a "0". Please see Ms. Burke ahead of the due date for any issues with conflicts about handing something in on time.

• All graded class work and homework may be reworked for a better grade. You generally have one week to redo it. Attach the original work and rubric in order to receive a new grade.

Powerschool will be officially updated at mid term and at term end. Please keep in mind that the 20% Process grade is averaged in at these times as well. It is the student's responsibility to keep track of graded work in case of a discrepancy.

Extra credit is available for those who wish to take advantage of it. It falls under the Process category. Extra credit can include extra class work and homework, seeing any art related movies, events, etc. on your free time. Also, visits to museums, galleries, art openings or art events are also acceptable.
