Drawing and Painting 1
Grade Level: 9-12 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 2
Description:
This course is designed for students with little or no experience with drawing or
painting. This course develops and refines fundamental drawing and painting skills
as a vehicle for thinking, seeing, and communicating. The teacher will introduce the
student to the variety of tools and techniques for both mediums and gradually guide
them towards confidence in many basic painting and drawing methods. Students will
explore ways of seeing and approach different subject matter. They will learn to
make successful observational works from a broad range of subjects, produce inventive
works from their imagination, and explore the many ways of creating the illusion of
space. Painting media may include oil, water, collage, tempera, and acrylic. Drawing
media may include graphite, charcoal, chalk pastel and oil pastel. Project development,
design and color theory will be an important part of developing a solid foundation for
students interested in the fields of art, architecture, graphic design and aesthetic
appreciation.
