About Mr Kruebbe

Magister Matthew Kruebbe was born in East Texas, where he grew up in a large, happy, musical, fun-loving family.   Growing up, he was interested in music (piano, guitar, French horn, playing/ singing with family by ear), literature and poetry, history,  philosophy and religion, everything he could learn at school, his family, walks in the woods and along the creek, movies, neighborhood sports, and other hobbies and interests.

Mr. Kruebbe's formal education includes the following:

Matthew holds multiple degrees in history and classics.  Classics is the study of ancient Greek and Roman/Latin language, literature, history, religion, philosophy, culture, etc.  At U.T. Austin, Mr. Kruebbe had the privilege of learning about ancient Greek language from Dr. Cynthia Shelmerdine (who authored the text book, Introduction to Greek), ancient Greek history and literature from Dr. Tom Palaima (Bronze Age specialist), ancient Latin language, Latin literature, and Egyptian religion and literature from Dr. William Nethercut, Greek mythology and religion in various courses, and Roman religion and history and literature under the guidance of Dr. Timothy Moore.  The classics department awarded Mr. Kruebbe the William J. Battle Scholarship in classical Greek as an undergraduate.  He was also fortunate to study koine Greek (a.k.a. biblical Greek) and Christian origins with Dr. L. Michael White, Ronald Nelson Smith Chair in Classics and Christian Origins, and director of the Institute for the Study of Antiquity and Christian Origins.  Dr. White's most well-known books are Scripting Jesus: The Gospels in Rewrite (2010) and From Jesus to Christianity: How Four Generations of Visionaries & Storytellers Created the New Testament and Christian Faith (2006), and he served as consultant and co-writer for, and was featured in, the PBS/Frontline documentary From Jesus to Christ: The First Christians (1998).  Matthew had an opportunity, as well, to spend the summer of 2007 with Dr. White's Ostia Synagogue Area Excavations, the "Ostia Synagogue Masonry Analysis Project," or OSMAP, an archaeological field project designed to reevaluate the area around the ancient synagogue of Ostia Antica, the port city of ancient Rome.  He also served as Teaching Assistant for several undergraduate courses, such as Classical Mythology, Intro. to Ancient Greece, and Intro. to the New Testament.

Matthew has always been passionate about learning and education, whether formal or informal.  He sees education as one of the best ways to serve oneself, one's fellow humans, and one's planet.  His highest values are love, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, joy, peace, harmony, and sustainability.  Mr. Kruebbe is also an amateur musician and writer, and he has a diverse array of other interests, including science (especially evolutionary biology, anthropology, and neuroscience), literature, art, history, science fiction, movies, environmental issues, sustainability, humanism, transhumanism, comparative mythology, technology, running, hiking, frisbee, and more.
