Strategy 1: Make Field Notes
- The first week is crucial
- E.g. study: why are students restless?
- Capture what is occurring, not your own subjective interpretation of it
Strategy 2: Analyze Students’ Work
- Note students’ working
- Choosing appropriate students’ work
Strategy 3: Solicit for Input
- From CT and / or critical friend
- From students – formal (blogs, surveys) and informal (interviews, surveys)
Strategy 4: Using test scores, assessments and grades
- Note whether there are extremes in grades
Theory: does not determine classroom practice ‘in a technical way but is liable to be influenced, even rendered irrelevant, by moral consideration’ (Carr, 1995, p. 324).
Learning: about asking the right questions and questioning one’s assumptions.
