The p-adics

Welcome to the course page for MAT455. While the course title technically is "Advanced Topics in Algebra" (or something to that effect), we are trying something new: we were aiming to hold a class from which someone with EITHER a background in real analysis OR algebra could have some fun. Hence, we are holding a semester-long course on the p-adics.

Naturally, since the backgrounds of students are allowed to vary, we will take as long as is necessary to recap/introduce (as the case may be) the necessary ring and field theory, as well as (real) analysis, needed to tackle this topic. There may be some point set topology thrown in as well.
