Answers to Questions

On Scheduling

Are we expected to meet on zoom daily for class discussions?

As of today (3/25), content related events are optional. Nothing is mandatory while the district is still working to make online learning equitable and accessible for everyone. By next week, we will have a more structured way of approaching online learning. By April, we will be meeting on a more regular basis for the material that we have not covered yet. As to what form that takes (zoom, schoology conferences or any other online video conferencing app), is still open. What is certain is that I will have a fixed schedule of "Virtual Office/Consultation Hours" daily. So, the short answer is yes we will be meeting regularly. Is it going to be everyday? I would say no (for the mandatory ones) but I will be available everyday and there will be regular offline assignments.

Are we following the same schedule (Period 1 - 7) as though we do in a regular day?

No, you will not be following the normal Period 1-7 schedule. The district has adopted a combination of synchronous (simultaneous/same time) and asynchronous (on your own time) learning methods with a focus on the core courses.

At HHS, the following guidelines have been set forth regarding instructional engagement (synchronous and asynchronous:

  • English and Math - 30 min/day x 5 days

  • Social Studies and Science - 30 min/day x 3 days

  • Electives (Except CTE) - 30 min/day x 1 day

  • CTE - 30 min/day x 3 days

In addition, every teacher will have 1-1.5 virtual office hours daily where you can consult with them live (via video conferencing).

Others

Do you know if Collegeboard is going to do live-streams starting from chapter 1 in the future, or are they just doing live-streams for the chapters that aren’t going to be on the AP exam?

College Board's live stream videos are designed to assist students as they review for the AP Exams. Consequently, most of the videos will be on the first 75% of the course, Units 1-7. However, the initial ones are covering Unit 8 which are not part of the exams.
