Leonello Carrara (ca 1881 - 1944) was born in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. He was the son of Florindo Carrara. On 23 April 1899 he arrived in New York to join his father.
Next thing we know about Leonello is his marriage to Elisabetta Marcantonio in Norwich on 21 April 1903 at St John Baptist Catholic church. The witnesses were Pasquale and Congetta Dalicandro. Leonello was living at 14 Black Swan Yard, Ber Street, and was a plaster image merchant.
Leonello and Elisabetta had four children: Carmine Frank (1904 - 1961), Antonetta (1905 - 1976), Florindo (1908 - 1979) and Maria Georgina (1911 - 1911).
In 1904-5 the family lived at 151 Ber Street, but by 1908 they had moved to Brooks Yard. On the 1911 census they lived at 2 Brooks Yard and Leonello was an ice cream vendor.
On 24 February 1912 Leonello Carrara arrived in New York on SS Lusitania. Was he visiting his father or had the Carraras decided to migrate to the United States? The story goes that Elisabetta was supposed to travel on the Titanic on 10 April 1912. However, she was told in a dream not to go on the Titanic and she took the advice.
From 1924 the Carraras lived at 123 Ber Street.
Leonello Carrara died of Carcinoma of liver on 30 August 1944 in Norwich.
