Luigi Capaldi (ca 1866 - 1902) was born in Picinisco, Frosinone, Lazio, Italy. His parents were Gaetano Capaldi and Maria Giuseppa Gizzi.
Luigi probably arrived in Norwich in the late 1880s. There was a promise of marriage between Luigi and Elisabetta Marcantonio, so he followed her to Norwich and found her at 3 Boarded Entry Yard, Ber Street. Gelsomino Capaldi, Luigi's younger brother, married Elisabetta's sister, Almerinda.
Luigi Capaldi and Elisabetta got married on 10 October 1889 at St John Maddermarket Catholic chapel. The witnesses were Domenico Capaldi and Luigi Marcantonio. It was a fashionable marriage, thanks to Elisabetta's friend Catherine Maude Nichols, and it was reported on in the local newspapers.
Luigi was the son of a rich landowner in Picinisco and he wasn't used to work, but he helped Elisabetta with her street organ business and never complained.
Luigi and Elisabetta had two daughters: Maria Christina (1890 - 1979) and Maria Josephina (1892 - 1970). They were baptised at St John Maddermarket Catholic chapel and later married an Italian.
In 1890 and 1891 the family lived at 33 Crawfoot Yard, Ber Street, but by 1901 they lived at 42 St Stephens Road, Lakenham.
Luigi Capaldi died of Phthisis at Lakenham on 27 August 1902. He left Elisabetta £218 4s 7d.
