Pocket Flags & Stars

New Pocket Stars

Thanks to Bev Dickinson we've added a "pocket star" along with the "pocket flag" Bobbi Cauldron and Judy Heithoff prepare to include in our cookie boxes.

Bev discovered the website StarsForOurTroops.org which takes old US Flags, retired from service, and passes "the legacy of their embroidered Stars to those that defended them".

Through Bev's work with Boy Scouts, who receive retired flags, she, along with her sister and help from Troop 23, had prepared almost 400 bags for our August '19 packing. Bev described the process, washing the flags, cutting the stars, etc.. She and her helpers are willing to prepare more but we need your help. If you have a retired flag(s) you can donate, please bring to a packing.

  • The stripes and canton (blue scraps) will be given to an organization that will properly retire them such as the Boy Scouts, American Legion, VFW, etc.
  • Any flags that cannot be used will either be given to an appropriate organization for retirement or
  • If the flags are repairable, we have a volunteer who will pass those flags to the Atlantic depository for repair and put back in service.
