Summary and Photos

The International Gastrointestinal Electrophysiology Society (iGES) hosted another annual meeting at the Clarion Inn & Suites in Orlando, Florida, on the 18th of May 2013. Investigators from the USA, UK, China, Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand converged and discussed the latest research work in the field of gastrointestinal electrophysiology.

The meeting began with an opening speech by Prof. Kenneth Koch (Wake Forest School of Medicine) who pointed out that it has been 21 years since the first iGES meeting (formerly called IEEGS).

Investigators then demonstrated their latest findings in the areas of gut electrical rhythm, electrically-based therapeutic approaches, and gastric electrical stimulation. Each presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session on the topic itself and its relation to translational research. Each presenter received valuable feedback from opinion leaders in the field on the soundness of their work and future directions. The CEO of the 3CPM Company, Dr. Mark Noar, presented and led an excellent panel discussion on the role of electrogastrography and related issues in basic science and clinical research.

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the award winners on the night: Dr. Weifeng Wang (Alvarez Award); Dr. Jingzhu Zhou (Robert Stern Award); Drs. Marcos Gillis, Archana Kedar, and Yuemei Xu (Young Investigator Award).

We would like to thank Profs. Richard McCallum (President) and Jiande Chen (Vice-President), and all the volunteers for organizing this meeting. We would like to thank the 3CPM Company for sponsoring this event.

We are looking forward seeing you at the next iGES meeting in 2014.
