A Mindful Weekend on the Ridge

Lead by Xuan and Thanh Huynh and others.

Time: 2nd Saturday and Sunday of each month 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM (unless otherwise announced)

Place: Hawaii Loa Ridge Park, end of Puu’Ikena Drive,

East Honolulu (between Aina Haina and Niu Valley, exit at Kawaikui Beach Park)

Cost: Free

Spend the day/weekend in nature, learning/practicing the art of being present with life’s unfolding events without resisting unpleasant experiences or holding on to pleasant ones. This non-judging observation allows the natural development of beautiful mental qualities. It gives rise to the understanding of the mind-body process and the true nature of phenomena. This simple yet profound practice can bring joy and peace and transformation of being. There will be alternating sitting/walking periods of 30-45 minutes each and instruction/discussion and a mindful (mostly) silent lunch.

Beginners are welcome (It would be helpful to read the introduction to mindfulness in the following website if you are new to vipassana: www.mindfulnessfreecourse.net).

Please tell security that you attend a gathering at the park sponsored by the Huynhs. Bring your own lunch and a water bottle, on-the-ground sitting gear (chair, bench, yoga mat and cushion etc...), a light jacket or raincoat, and a sun hat. Do not park in the hikers’ area on the right (mauka/high end) of the road. If the lot to the left/makai is full, park on Ikena circle (the last cross-street before the entrance to the park) and walk up the stairs (on the left) to the retreat location by Diamond Head pavilion (lower/makai end of the park or the main pavilion near the parking if it rains). You may join/leave the retreat at any time but we appreciate your informing us when you leave.
