Offensive Zone Drills

1. 2 on 0 to Cycle the Puck Down Low

1- Player 1 carries puck out of zone and loops around and re-enters zone from the outside. P1 makes pass to P2 in slot and goes to net for rebound

2- Player 2 skates down low and opens up for pass before pivoting back to forward, skating out around cone and re-entering zone going to slot (watch for offside). P2 receives pass from P1 and shoots, then looks for rebound.

3 - Coach dumps a second puck in the corner. P1 (or closest player to puck), picks up puck and carries up wall towards point

4- P1 makes bank pass back to P2. Coach applies pressure.

5- P2 moves to corner to receive bank pass. P2 then either takes puck to net if lane is available (coach changes pressure) or looks for a pass back to P1 who is going to the net.

Progression - Add coach/ player at point. P1 either completes the bank pass or passes the puck back to point depending on pressure by coach. If puck is passed to point, then P1 and P2 go to net and D brings puck to middle and shoots. If puck ends up in corner then a new cycle begins.

2. Perpetual Cycle Drill

1. Coach dumps a puck in – first player goes into corner, picks up the puck, and cycles it back.

2. A second player follows him in to pick up the cycle.

3. After cycling it back, the first player cuts across the top of the circle and drives the net – second player passes out for a one-time shot.

4. After the pass is made, the next player in line dumps it in the other corner.

5. The player who just made the pass continues up around the top of the circle, then drives into the corner to pick up the dump.

6. He cycles back, and the player who dumped it in supports to pick up the cycle. Same thing happens again. Drill continues perpetually.

3. Respect 2 on 0

Respect 2 on 0 Hockey Goalie Drill

The drill starts by the first player (F1) making a pass across ice to the other player (F2). Both player skate around the pylons and cross in the middle of the ice. The player with the puck (F2) should skate in front of the other player (F1) and leave a drop pass to their forehand. Both players continue around the pylons. The player with the puck (F1) will either shoot or make a pass to the player driving the net (F2). The goalies need to respect the shot and the pass. The player with the puck should try to disguise the pass by getting the puck in shooting position.

4. Royal Puck Protection Drill

Royal Puck Protection Drill

Moving your feet, protecting the puck, and a quick release are the points of emphasis.

To set up the drill place two lines along the wall just outside the blue line. The first player in line (P1) skates down along the wall and then does a figure eight between the two players. As they go around each player they have to protect the puck with their body while moving their feet. The two players standing still (P2 & P3) can use their stick to annoy the puck carrier (P1). As the puck carrier skates up the wall and around P3 they have to get a quick shot off right after they reach the cone. Players should keep moving their feet as they release the shot, skating through the shot and stopping at the crease. After the shot and stopping at the net they take over P2's position. P2 goes to P3's position, and P3 goes to the end of the line.
