I have had this idea in my head for about a year to list down all the points that make me awesome, every quality that my ideal should have and I have, so that in future i would have the lowest benchmark to compare myself to. So These are my best qualities in winter 2010, delhi, India, Prefinal semester, IITD. The quotes in Italics are anonymous Testimonials by my batch mates at IIT written in a google document accessible to members of google group elec2006
Staying cool in face of adversity
(An ideal is the kind of pacifistic approach of the dude)
one example that comes to mind is that of loosing my bags and still living through it, keeping my cool, my reactions being pretty thought out and not panicking. That earned respect from the group.
I work ahead of schedule
To put in different words you can't live a great life by always dashing to finish before a deadline because there is no finesse in the final outcome, things are executed better if you start early. like my resume preparation ( creation and printing them days in advance), my attitude towards studies in general, sometimes i start preparing for majors weeks ago.
"Haven't seen a more straightforward and more committed guy than him. Does his work with great dedication! You rock dude!" "Iske chehre se hi seriousness jhalakti hai, one of the few guys which the companies will hire solely at face value"
Questioning illogical, pointless rules and really understanding the reason behind rules
I am proud to say that I would challenge pointless arbitrary rules not for the heck of it but if there is some logic to do that.
"He is expressionless, dedicated and persistent, and has a chilling demeanor which gives me a feeling that he is sort of humanoid, Kabhi Kabhi loop me fas jata hai. Jab Chadhti hai to lab khol kar farar ho jata hai … His first principle in life, “Rules are flexible, and are defined by its breaking point”."
Helping out friends, sometimes failing and then not caring about it
I tried to get a friend a bed for his brother at Safdarjung but i failed, I lived through that. And there are many times where i used my matlab skills and succeeded in helping my friends, "and jab kisi ki help karne ki baat aati hai to uski problem khudki problem maanke seriously help karta hai(he is nt among guys giving suggestion ki aisa karle ho jayega)"
I get to correct conclusions more often than not ( abstraction of truth)
The conclusions in my internship report about money, growth prospects, holidays. The conclusions about the importance of travel in my life.
I am proud of the fact that i am open to different cultures, to different people , to different ideas.
I am proud of the fact that i have a friend who is gay and i never felt anything wrong or bad about it . I never felt like questioning the person. I have known a bi girl and i never had to question her orientation or feel strange about it.
I am proud of the fact that i can naturally accept diversity and differences so easily.
I am proud of the fact that i hate bickering, back biting, bitching.
I am proud that i am better than a mouse in an overcrowded mice colony. That i have figured out some things.
My biggest drive, biggest project in IIT has been in getting the paper published. I went alone to the place, Yichang, in China to attend the conference. Fixed up the flights, the Buses, raised money, applied for travel grant, got a fee waiver from the conference. Not to mention just working for the project the year before, and sending a paper to Wipro. Second biggest accomplishment is combined, Teaching Matlab, and winning competition/scholarships by todai, huawei and Wipro.
I hate my incompleteness. I hate the fact that i can't somersault, backflip, skate, swim etc.
