My personal path to Nihilism ( शून्यवाद तक का मेरा निजि रास्ता ) :
My work and theory was originally meant to answer the purpose of life and proposing a substitute for god. Some sort of a universal, objective answer The answer i came up with at first was that a universal, objective, independently existing purpose of life doesn't exist, to look for a big answer, to search for a validation in the form of serving a higher purpose, a higher value is meaning less.
Everything we do is so utterly equally worthless, pointless, so equally admirable, so equally similar and no matter how big you get , the glamor doesn't last, the power doesn't last, being Gandhi, being Marilyn Monroe wouldn't last. Hitler was glamourous in germany in his time, What did hitler do ? And even being remembered is truly a stupid goal. We truly are like bubbles no matter how big we get we are too insignificant, and their is no purpose.
* the way i see it, Expected life of humans has increased at the expense of other species on this planet. This development is not necessarily good even for humans. the way i see it we humans now do in 70 years what we used to do in 30. We are born, we grow up, marry, raise kids, die. This is pretty much all that a 70 year long life is of a person, sure you may make films, factories or fiction but essentially every society bound person is fulfilling the roles the outlined just now.
*We have Facebook now. It works by giving us our daily dose of being liked. It is akin to an addiction, everybody wants to be liked, and through witty sayings, dazzling photographs we get recognition from a group of people that surround us. When i see it this way i realize that the quest to get fame, to being recognized is not inherently superior, "the quest" for beautiful girls , beautiful cars, things to own is also not certifiably important.
* Glamour , the substitutability of a person who is glamorous, how utterly worthless our illusions are , how the lights and the fact that its a sole person on top of a stage makes everything look big.
* A dialog from "Requiem for a dream"
White_boy: you get strung out, what's the big deal about the red dress
White_mom: i almost fit in my red dress, i am gonna be a contestant on television, you drove up in a cab , you saw who had the best seat, i am somebody now , everybody likes me, soon millions of people will see me and they will all like me, its a reason to get up in the morning, its a reason to lose weight, to fit in the red dress, its a reason to smile, it makes tomorrow all right, i am alone, what have i got, i have no one to care for, i am lonely, i am old, my friends they don't need me, i like thinking about the red dress and the television and you
Wrong Objections to above to prove existence of objective universal independently existing truth:
1. If stuff that you do is worthless why do it at all ---
All i am saying is that whatever you do is equally worthless, My doing something is as good as my doing something else. I propose that there is no god, only pure chance. Your entire life is defined by chance happenings. Yes we can increase or decrease the chances by planning, by training, by learning. We make rules that we follow to reduce chances, Materials and objects follow certain rules, Things when pushed keep moving unless external force is applied. These rules are inferences from observations. Humans utilize these inferences but how humans utilize them is never definably a "better way". Sure once newton gave his laws, all sorts of machines became possible, but is it possible to really quantify that the world that we are living in now is any better than the world that we were living in ? I mean if we were in a jungle and fending for ourselves then things would be different but does different mean worse? would things have been better or worse for urban homeless? would they be better or worse for war veterans? would they be better or worse for silvio berlusconi ? The only sense in which world is better or worse is the sense that i make of it.
This is kind of like plato's cave theory. We are the cave dwellers maybe the shadows that we observe has changed but is it a better picture. The point is that it is always the powerful who will put forward the theory that everything is becoming better, because things are to their comfort, but other than their comfort/happiness development going ahead/progress doesn't mean anything.
2. Pure chance is bs, I make my destiny by working and planning ---
What preparation does is that it increases your chances, when you prepare the chances of success increase but that's all nothing more. What you achieve through all that training was it more important that anything else to begin with???? that's my question, My rules that I follow, my code of conduct is a preparation that i do to increase my chances of happiness, that i would be happy "when i treat people the way i want to be treated" this rule is utterly selfish, based on the belief that by doing this behavior chances of my happiness will increase, the real thing becomes your current happiness. This way I/everyone can define all moral values by my/their own definition. No universal laws, no super power, no overbearing dictat.
3. Well everybody follows Law and Order ---
A possible objection would be that what about laws and government and democracy. I say they are a way to make a lot of people follow what a select group of people thinks. So does a belief in "chance as god" justify anarchy ??. What about the fact that crime really is crime. That killing someone is killing someone. These are absolutes, right ?? I say No this is never how people function, when there is war, A coup, A court case, Then offenders lives are things which we don't like intact so we break them, why can we do that, because there is a lot of us. If a human had a weapon that would kill everyone else other than people he wants living then wouldn't he become All powerful.
Conclusion
What i am saying is that you don't really have to agree with me on this theory that Chance is god, whether you do it or not, doesn't make a difference. For those who think logic is supreme ( who get happiness in not submitting them to a higher power, in being strong against it) I propose a logical alternative. And for everyone i say this that your life really has no big purpose, whatever you do is equally good, equally bad so don't tie yourself to the consequences and just do whatever you want. (This is like geeta's karmayoga but without the Dharma, without a code of conduct.)
