Missoula County Public Schools offers an after school advanced orchestra class. This course is designed for MCPS students, but they accept out of district students as well. The course is taught by MCPS middle school teachers from: Washington, Meadow Hill and Porter Middle School.
Students meet every Tuesday from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Meadow Hill Middle School, Orchestra Classroom. This orchestra is an audition only group. Students may only miss two Tuesday evenings for the school year. You must be in your school orchestra to audition. Please see the scale sheet below for audition material.
Students that are currently in our Hellgate Middle School String Ensemble are at the high level to audition and play in this group. Please consider your extra String Ensemble class as master classes/private instruction that meet the highly recommended comment by MCPS below.

Here is the listing of requirements to be in MYO by MCPS:
Students selected for the Missoula Youth Orchestra Must:
1. Be a 7th or 8th grade student participating in their own middle school orchestra program. An advanced 6th grader may audition with permission from their orchestra director. Note: Out-of-district students will be selected to participate on a space-available basis.
2. Pay a fee of $75 to participate.
3. Regularly attend Tuesday rehearsals beginning in early October, from 6:30-8:30, at Meadow Hill Middle School. Rehearsals will be held in the orchestra and band classrooms.
4. Understand and adhere to the attendance policy as outlined in the acceptance letter.
● Private lessons are highly recommended for any accepted orchestra member.
Audition Requirements:
1. Scales and excerpts (reverse of this sheet)
2. Play a short sight-reading excerpt of the normal difficulty of the MYO and MCS concert repertoire.
