Practice is that magic word that makes any goal attainable. If you work hard, efficiently and focused you will master your instrument. Practice can also be a very difficult activity to start on some days. It is my personal motto that if you just practice for 5 minutes a day you will gain more technique and repertoire than if you only practice for 1 hour on a single day of the week.
To be good at anything it requires work. It is up to you how fast and far you want to go with your instrument. There will be seasons in your life when you are overdone with lots of activities, that is a time to scale back how many minutes you practice per day. When your schedule is more flexible, that is the time when you add in extra practice time and more effort. Life is a balancing act. One of the gifts learning an instrument will give you, is how to better time manage all the activities in your life. Making space for music teaches you that your time is important and choosing activities that uplift and give you an constructive and nurturing outlet for your emotions, is a life long benefit.
