Special Event: Parent Meeting & Instrument Night
At the beginning of each school year I schedule an evening to meet with parents/guardians to answer questions, explain how rentals work and share how our orchestra program is organized and operated. This is just an opportunity to meet with me and ask questions about your child's chosen instrument and where to purchase and/or rent.
We will also have Music Medics on site to offer good quality instruments for you to consider renting and/or purchasing.
Families of orchestra students are also welcome to bring their old or outgrown stringed instruments to sell. We have so many new students each year with fifth grade that are looking for instruments. As students out grow their smaller instruments this night is a great time to find a new home for your for sale instrument. If you are interested in selling your instrument, please bring it to the orchestra room promptly at 6:00 pm so we can have it ready to sell.
Please feel free to take advantage of this evening, it is designed to answer any questions or ideas you might have for the school year. I designed this event for you for your convenience - it is not required attendance.
Date: Thursday, September 4, 2025
Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Location: Hellgate Elementary, Building #4, Orchestra Classroom
Instruments that are owned and rented by Hellgate Elementary School District No. 4, are currently being rented for the school year and summer months. There are a limited number of instruments available. Prices, contracts and such are provided by the district administration offices. Not all instruments are allowed to go home with students. If you have any questions please call your child's building office for further information. Scholarships are available, please inquire if you need assistance.
It is highly encouraged to have your own instrument for practice, concerts and beyond. The benefit of having your own instrument is that you can take it home, you are able to practice when you want and you have a life-long instrument that you can enjoy forever! These are places that current and previous Hellgate Elementary Families have rented and purchased instruments from that had a positive experience. Thank you families for sharing your favorite locations to rent and own instruments!

Sells locally made instruments with a variety of levels and prices
There are other places in town and out that do rent and sell quality string instruments.
This listing is a group of businesses and/or people that have proven through our orchestra families to stand behind their product and have excellent service.
Please feel free to try different options --this is just a listing of places to start or possibly try.
Please stay away from those $100.00 instruments sometimes found on amazon and Walmart sites. The amount of money you might have to spend to make them playable outweighs the initial cost. If the instrument comes in a painted 'color' it is a 5th grade level instrument only. Those instruments do not support intermediate playing in 6th, 7th, 8th grade and beyond.
I am more than happy to look at an instrument you are thinking of purchasing/renting. I am available before school and after to take a look, play the instrument for you and do whatever I can to make your decision as easy as possible.
And...... if you are ever in St. Louis Missouri -- this is THE VIOLIN SHOP!!!!!

VIOLIN & VIOLA:
Everest Shoulder Rest
Violin-- they come in 1/2-3/4 & 3/4-4/4 size. If you are not in a full size (4/4), I recommend purchasing the size that is the smaller size so the shoulder rest will work on the next sized instrument.
Viola -- they come in one size for viola. Until you reach a 15" or 16" viola, purchase a 4/4 violin shoulder rest.
CELLO:
Xeros Endpin Anchor -- there are many versions of this. This keeps you cello from slipping when playing on hard/slippers flooring.
BASS:
Slipstop Rock Stop -- they come in many colors. This keeps you bass from slipping on and/or denting hard/slippers flooring.
Bass Bow Quiver -- this bow holder keeps the bass player within quick reach of their bow between pizz and acro moments in playing
Cello and Bass Stand -- a great way to keep your cello or bass out and ready to play at a moments notice. Students tend to practice more when it is convenient and easily accessible.
The Block Strap -- a fun cello strap that gives you the ability to walk and dance while playing your cello! So much FUN!
