The charisma and supremacy of lord Jagannath have been proved by thousands of devotees once & again. One such devotee is Jayadev of Kendubilwa village. The story starts with Deba Burma of dakhina desh (South state). He had no issues. The family knew of Jagannath mahima(story of mercy) and thought of visiting Lord Jagannath , reached puri in the month of Baishakha. They saw the lord during chandana jata (Yatra), begged for a child and promised to let it serve the lord. By the mercy of Lord Jagannath a daughter was born to the family. They named her padmavati. She grew as beautiful as a wise girl and the parents loved her most.Days passed by and Deba Burma forgot his promise. Once a saint(sadhu) came and saw padmavati and knew that she is the blessing of Lord Jagannath. The Sadhu reminded Deba of his promise, warned him of consequences of not keeping up the promise to Lord Jagannath & left the place. Deba Burma told about it to his wife who, out of immense love for her daughter, discarded the warning. It so happened that once Padmavati suffered from fever. But She could not recover.Deba Burma became worried and prayed God. Lord Jagannath told Deba burma in dream to handover her daughter to one of his devotees named Jayadev. Deba Burma though it wise to keep up his promise and searched for Jayadev. He found Jayadev sitting under a tree. (Jayadev was born in 1165 AD in kendubilwa village and was a great devotee of lord jagannath) .Deba took padmavati to jayadev and offered him his daughter saying that it was Lord Jagannath's wish. Jayadev, not knowing the story, humbly refused to accept her. Deva Burma , finding no other way, left her near jayadev and went home. Jayadev , in his dream, was directed to accept padma and he did it. Later Padmavati served Jayadev as a devotee and Jayadev composed the eternal Geetagovind and became famous as one of the great devotees of Lord Jagannath. Jai jagannath
