The Jersey Princess

Jersey skies as black as Bo'ness coal,

And not a creature stirred, no mouse no mole.

But two proud parents were awake,

Attentive for their wee girl's sake,

Dear Rosie Isla Hodge, the little soul.

“Hello world,” her crying seemed to say,

“If you don't mind, I'd like to come and stay.”

Pronounced to rhyme with mum and dad,

They took her home to St. Brelade,

And said “you lovely thing, of course you may.”

Already in society's elite,

With perfect little hands and little feet.

As Shakespeare wrote, it's all the same,

And who can say what's in a name?

Rosie by any name would be as sweet.
