CONOCIÉNDONOS
Objective: at the end of class students will be able to make a description of a famous person they think is similar to them.
Level: beginning Spanish students (second semester).
Time: 40-45 minutes approximately.
Materials: printed students' handout with the activities and images that illustrate the rules for using the verbs ser and estar in Spanish.
Pre-knowledge: the teacher needs to remember at the beginning of the class that the verb to be divides into two forms in Spanish: ser and estar. Students already know the present conjugation of the verbs ser and estar.
Description: students will be explicitly exposed to the uses of the verbs ser and estar in Spanish. The focus of this lesson is on understanding which the different uses of both verbs are because of the fact that in Spanish the verb to be is divided into two groups depending on what follows the verb. This is a basic class beginning with structured and highlighted input activities (requiring attention to grammatical items while focusing on meaning) to get into structured output activities.
