¿PREFIERES UNA CIUDAD O UN PUEBLO?
Objective: students will be able to say whether they prefer a city or a town by comparing them.
Level: beginning Spanish students (second semester).
Time: 50 minutes approximately.
Materials: printed students' handout with the activities and readings that will help them discover the grammar rules.
Pre-knowledge: the teacher needs to introduce some vocabulary to the students: msnm (metros sobre el nivel del mar), m (metros), km2, kg, euros.
Description: students will be directly exposed to the two different types comparatives of inequality (más/menos + adj./noun + que vs. más/menos de + number) by reading two short texts about Madrid and Barcelona with highlighted input. After each text, students will need to do some directed activities to help them understand the use of the inequality comparatives in Spanish to bring them thinking about the rules. Finally, they will do an open activity about comparing two different cities.
