"La Fondazione si propone di salvaguardare la memoria della vita e delle opere dello scienziato e filosofo Sir John Eccles attraverso il promovimento di attività, di studi e ricerche scientifiche e filosofiche in relazione ai temi da lui approfonditi, in particolare la problematica del rapporto mente-cervello. Inoltre la Fondazione potrà eventualmente finanziare programmi di ricerca atti a difendere una concezione scientifica del mondo che rispetti la dignità umana. Gli studi promossi potranno concretizzarsi in pubblicazioni sponsorizzate dalla Fondazione.

La Fondazione persegue scopi di pubblica utilità e non ha finalità di lucro."

Nel 2008 Prof. Em. Mario Tiengo venne chiamato a succedere al Rettore della Università della Svizzera Italiana come Presidente della Nobel John Eccles Foundation che ha sede a Locarno (CH) .

'The foundation proposes to safeguard the memory of the life and works of the scientist and philosopher, Sir John Eccles, through the promotion of activities, studies and scientific and philosophical research relating to the themes he explored, in particular, the problem of the brain-mind relationship. Furthermore, the Foundation may eventually finance research programs focussed on defending a scientific conception of the world that respects human dignity. The promoted studies will be made concrete in publications sponsored by the foundation.

The foundation pursues the goals of the public good and is non-profit.'

In 2008, Prof. Em. Mario Tiengo was called to succeed the Dean of the University of Italian Switzerland as President of the Sir John Eccles Foundation headquartered in Locarno (Switzerland).
