Questo è il titolo della lectio magistralis tenuto da Camillo Golgi nel 1906 in un momento solenne della sua vita, nel momento, cioè, in cui egli viene laureato Premio Nobel e che peraltro viene riconosciuto come la nascita ufficiale delle neuroscienze. In questa lezione Camillo Golgi riassume in modo mirabile tutto il suo lavoro scientifico degli anni precedenti.
In questa lettura ritroviamo il suo impegno di studioso, d'istologo, di scienziato illuminato da una forza e da un desiderio di conoscenza che lo aveva sempre accompagnato. Tale lectio rappresenta una svolta storica fondamentale nello sviluppo delle scienze fisiche naturali e che porterà nel secolo successivo a quegli straordinari sviluppi che tutti conosciamo tra i quali emerge la nascita della fisica quantistica.

"[find the title of the lectio magistralis of Golgi, when he was given the Nobel Prize] ... This is the title of the lectio magistralis held by Camillo Golgi in 1906 on a solemn occasion of his life, the moment, that is, when he was awarded the Nobel Prize, and which, in addition, is recognized as the birth of the neurosciences. In this talk, Camillo Golgi riassumes in an admirable way all of his scientific work of the preceding years.
In this talk, we find his dedication as a scholar, a histologist, a scientist illuminated by a force and by a desire for knowledge, which always had accompanied him. This lectio represents a historic and fundamental moment in the development of the natural physical sciences, and which will lead in the following century to those extraordinary developments that we all know, among which emerges the birth of quantum physics.
