How To search Google Buzz

When you access Google Buzz through the left-hand links in your Gmail, you'll see a “Search Buzz” button and a “Search Mail” button next to the search box at the top of the page. To search within all the public Buzz posts that are currently published, you use the “Search Buzz” button.

Of course, you type keywords in the search box, just like in Google Search. If you put several keywords separated by space, they will be treated as if there were a “OR” operator between them. E.g. if you type “united states”, you’ll be returned all posts containing “united”, or “states”, or “united and “states”. If you want only the posts containing “united” and “states”, you shall type “united +states” in. And you can also exclude keywords with the use of the “-” operator.

But Google provides specific Buzz operators or more semantic filtering:

  • has:[link/video/image/audio] – finds all public posts with either a link, video, or image.
  • author:"person name" – finds all public posts authored by the person. from: also works.
  • commenter:"person name" – finds all public posts that the person commented on.
  • source:[buzz/twitter/reader/mobile/picasa/flickr/friendfeed/yelp/digg/tumblr/(any valid source)] – finds all public posts that come from the specified source.

All those operators can be combined in complex queries with other “AND” and “OR” operators and parenthesis.

Cassius Wright has written a nice Buzz on the subject with examples.
