Page 28 - Auckland Record Office

In March 2011 we visited the Auckland Record Office at Mangere , my Mother had previously found some records at the Record Office in the 1990's, Wendy Brewer, Sharon Jones and myself found quite a few more records. I have attached photos of these records to this page.

More information about this is shown on page 16 (called Adams Arrival), the four pages below called Waikato Scheme early Grants show that Adam was awarded his land at a late stage in 1868, rather than the initial grants before the scheme failed due to lack of money. From reading Diana Menefy's book called Kamo: The Story of a Village“ ISBN 0-473-02806-9, it looks like Adam was a free (non paying) passage assisted immigrant and was therefore entitled to 10 acres of land. I am looking for more details of this, how and why the grants were awarded in 1868.

One document that we did not find that my mother found at the Record Office in the early 1990's was a Lees Ships document that showed Adam had been allocated land at Maungatawhiri, we can search for this on our next visit.

Also at the National Archive was Microfilm –R5019 Ls –A Page 83 – 84. This showed the following about the Waikato Scheme.

Adam had been allocated land at Maungatwhiri, this is shown as entry 127 on Page 110 of Waikato Immigration – Registers of Applications for Grants for Immigrants. Register of Immigrants. (Note: The Waikato Scheme had failed so that Adam would never have received this land).

But possibly in Compensation Adam was later awarded two allocations of land. Page 110 also says Application No 1202 on 20^th April 1877 Adam Girven, Kawakawa, Engine Driver. Ship Dauntless arrived 15^th May 1865. Town Allotment No 14 Kamo, Surveyor of Allotment 241. Also Suburban Allotment 127 10 Acres at Maungatapere Tokitoki.
