Presentation

The second edition of The Art Box, “I, the others”, is a contemporary art project staged in three locations in Turin, the Cortile del Maglio, the SpazioSteiner and the Italo Calvino Public Library, and falls within the ambit of the events associated with the Turin Book Fair. The Art Box is represented by the Cortile del Maglio, an art container par excellence. In this second edition, the container has been extended to include a further two sites (the Steiner Institute and the Italo Calvino Public Library), both linked to the Cortile by the River Dora in a single art system running through the city’s VII district. For the second consecutive year, the city and art will stage a dialogue on the fringes of the book fair that is directly inspired by the fair itself.

Each site will be staging an event: the Cortile del Maglio will house the vernissage/happening on the 8th of May 2009, with live performances by artists and students and an installation on the maglio itself; the SpazioSteiner will feature an exhibition of artists’ books from the Ruggero Aprile Collection and artists’ books produced specifically for the event.

An exhibition of MailArt will instead be housed in the Italo Calvino Public Library:

The works that will be on show are a tribute to art, books and the relationship between ourselves and others.
