Hello Ghost Train Runners!
Labor Day is here, we are into the month of September, I’ve seen some red leaves while out on my runs, and Ghost Train is less than 50 days away! Has this summer flown by as quickly for you as it has for me? Yikes!
What race am I in?
After my last email where I had challenges with the email template on Ultrasignup, rather than sending what race you’re registered for you can go check the registration page and double check if you’re not sure! Click on “Entrants” or “Waitlist” and then on the race that you’re in. Any questions please let me know, although if you didn’t follow instructions, you owe me $1 service fee. (Yes, I’m joking with you!)
You can’t attend? Or want to change races?
If you know that you can’t attend this year for whatever reason, please email me at ghosttrainrace@gmail.com – a runner from the waitlist will be very appreciative! You can also find instructions to drop or to change races on our website. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about moving races and encourage you to email me before moving to say the 30-Hour Ultra, since you’ll end up at the end of the waitlist. (These questions are free – and I’m not joking this time!)
Volunteers!!
Volunteers are critical to providing all our runners with a great experience, and we are always in need of help! Please see our volunteer page for links to sign up, and there is also a page to learn more about volunteering where you can get all the details for each position available. Maybe a friend, crew member, pacer, or loved one can take one shift? If everyone did this, we’d be turning people away, and that would be a great problem to have! Everyone who volunteers will be offered an orange fleece hat embroidered with the Ghost Train logo as a thank you.
SWAG!
If you are looking for swag, Move Free will have a table at the race offering some of their awesome products, such as sweatshirts, hats, buffs, and stickers. Ghost Train swag is also available at our Café Press store, and both products make a great gift for pacers and crew. (Just saying!) Our swag is purchased from a local female owned company, which is awesomely cool. If that’s not enough for you, we will be selling our embroidered black fleece hats at Ghost Train again this year for $20, our embroidered and distressed orange ball caps for $25, and our always popular tech hats for a super bargain price of $10! (Cash only for sales at the race please!)
Cups
Please bring a collapsible cup and/or bowl for beverages and hot broth. We’d love to reduce the amount of waste generated and be kinder to Mother Earth. Limited supplies of collapsible cups will be available at the race for $5 each. (Again, cash only please!)
Food Donations
Ghost Train asks that you bring non-perishable food items for the local food pantries, if you can do so. Items such as gluten free, low sodium, or lactose free foods, as well as personal care, feminine hygiene, pet food, coffee, olives, pickles, nuts, chocolate, cooking oil, snacks for young kids, and various healthy and nutritious foods are especially welcome. Want to know more about what is needed? (Or not needed?). Check out the food donation page for the Brookline Food Pantry. They have a lot of great information on their page!
Shoe Donations
More information will be announced soon, but if you have used running or other comfortable sneakers that you’d like to upcycle/reuse, please save them to bring to the race!
Food at Ghost Train Aid Stations
More will be posted in our Facebook group closer to the race, but we continue to do our best to offer various foods for various dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and of course offerings for our full-on carnivore friends! If your needs are very strict or specific, feel free to reach out with questions or talk to the aid station captains. We are still an aid station in the woods, so if you’re still unsure or have severe allergies, we do recommend safe packaged foods that don’t risk trace cross contamination.
Do you have more questions?
Here are some other great resources to get answers:
