One of the largest Generator manufactures and marketers in the Unites States is Generac. They produce generators for Recreational, Emergency, Professional and On Site use. Their smallest recreational generators are inverter generators with capacity starting at 800 watts and topping out around 17500 watts.
With any generator you will want to get a larger generator than the watts you will be using. Normally you will want a generator that is rated for one and a half to twice as many watts as your normal use. Generators do not work well when they are at the upper limit of their output. This is also why most generators will tell you the projected gas consumption when the generator is at half rated load. This is the sweet spot on most generators--fifty to seventy five percent of max load.With a conventional generator the larger the generator the more fuel it burns even when there is low demand. With an inverter generator when the demand is low the motor will go down to idle and not burn as much gas. Having a lot of extra capacity in an inverter generator does not increase your low demand gas usage.
