Basically just a motor with an alternator attached, a conventional generator is simple. Since the motor just runs at a standard rpm, usually 3600, there are not usually complicated motor controls or other things to go haywire.

You can get a Conventional Genset in any size you want. From 500 watts up to 50,000 and higher. Since Alternator Generators are relatively new and are not being produced in nearly as large of quantities as conventional generators you will not have nearly as many options when purchasing an alternator Generator.
