Death of an Old Resident. The

death took place at the House of Refuge, Clinton, on Thursday of last week, of one of Elimville's oldest residents, in the person of Mr. Samuel Halls, at the age of 86 years. Deceased came to Elimville over 45 years ago, and resided in that vicinity until about a year ago, when he went to the House of Refuge to reside. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. He was born in Devonshire, England, in 1841, and came to Canada in 1842, crossing the Atlantic in a sailing vessel, and being 14 weeks on the water. For many years he followed the occupation of mason, and was widely known in this district. During the Civil War, in the United States, he went there and reported incidents to the British Government. He married a Miss Godbolt, who predeceased him about 40 years. A brother, James, and three sons survive. The remains were interred in Elimville cemetery.

Notes: The obituary birth year is in error, he was born in 1821. His brother James predeceased him by 5 years, possibly the author means his son James, who was still alive and 56 years old at the time.

He is buried in the same plot as his daughter Sarah Margaret. He was buried in the same cemetery as his brothers James and John, and his daughter Mary Jane Godbolt.
