Questions
Like any family researcher I have questions about things that have happened in the family. So, in no particular order here are some burning questions.
- What terrible thing happened between Samuel Halls and his wife Drucilla such that they ended up living in Chicago and Portland, Oregon and claiming that they were widowed?
- Update - Samuel Halls was accused of swindling over $6000 from Florence Woods. Perhaps this has something to do with it
- Update 2 - Just prior to the accusation from Florence Woods her husband, Hiram Woods, vanished. Apparently they were at the theater one day, and he left saying he would be back in a minute, never to return.
- Why can't I find any of Henry Halls children or their descendants in Ontario?
- Update - I have managed to find a descendant of Henry living in Ontario
- What happened to the Silver Cross given to Kate Halls when her son Philip died in Italy?
- Why can't I find any pictures of my ggg grandfather, Thomas Halls?
- For that matter, why can't I find pictures of any of the brothers who immigrated to Canada?

- James was Usborne township councillor and magistrate in Huron county in the 1870's/80's
- Update - I was contacted by a descendant of a family friend of James Halls and she sent me a photo of the entire family. See The Gallery.
- Samuel P Halls earned a BA, and MA from the University of Toronto, and was a graduate of the Toronto teachers College. He was the clerk of Usborne township (Huron County), and the Science Master of the Goderich High School, and later Master of the model and high schools in Goderich. All between 1860 and 1900
- Update - I finally have a picture of SP Halls. It is from his 1886 BA picture.
- John Halls was a brother of Thomas. I now have pictures of him, his wife Annie Kettlewell, and most of their children
- James was Usborne township councillor and magistrate in Huron county in the 1870's/80's

- What happened to Charlotte Halls, and why did she end up in Tennessee?
- Why did every last Halls family member leave Huron County by 1910?
- What happened to Margaret, the wife of Samuel Halls? That is to say, when did she die, and where?
- Exactly when did Samuel and Margaret marry? I know it was between 1842 when Samuel arrived in Canada, and 1848 - his son James is listed in the 1851 Census of Canada as being two years old.
- What is the relationship between Bird Alice Halls buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Beloit, Wisconsin, and the rest of the Halls family? James and John Halls are listed as living in a household headed by Catherin Bird in Chicago in the 1880 US Census.
- When did James, son of Samuel, die? I have narrowed it to between 1904 (last appearance in the Chicago Directory) and 1918 when he is stated as predeceasing his daughter Lulu. The most likely range is 1904 to 1910, 1910 being the year his wife Louise begins to appear in the Chicago Directory.
- Who is Catherine Halls, and why is she marrying John Dawson in Lambeth, Westminster, Middlesex in Aug of 1871? She must be related somehow because that is where Thomas Halls and his family lived.
- Does my great-uncle Philip Ashley Patrick Halls have children in England? After he died two letters from English girlfriends were removed from his personal effects and destroyed before the remainder of his personal effects were sent home. It makes me suspicious.
