Summer Camp Rotation

Troop 18 has a pool of summer camps available for our scouts to enjoy. Below is a brief summary of the camps that are used by Troop 18.

Ten Mile River – A 13,000 acre scout camp 3 hours from Freehold that offers a vast array of activities in the Catskill Mountains. Scouts can earn merit badges in traditional merit badges. Older boys have the ability to participate in COPE, Mountain Biking, Mountain Climbing and repelling. The pool in camp is heated, has a water slide and the aquatics staff is excellent. There is a lake for canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Scouts cook breakfast and lunch while dinner is served using heater stacks.

Forestburg – This camp is a three-hour drive near Monticello in New York State. Forestburg offers traditional camp activities and merit badges. The firing range, archery, and waterfront building are excellent. All aquatic programs are performed in the lake. The camp is doing an excellent job of improving the infrastructure throughout the property. Boys cook breakfast and dinner while lunch is served in the dining hall. There is no COPE program at Forestburg. Mountain Biking is available for older scouts.

Resica Falls Scout Reservation – A 4,200 acre scout reservation located 2 hours away in the Pocono Mountains. The Bushkill Creek wanders through the camp with swimming holes and waterfalls available to scouts to cool off in. The camp offers the best High COPE I have ever seen, firing range, fly fishing, and one or multiple day canoe trips on the Delaware. Camp activities are structured with merit badges in the morning and troop outings after lunch. The Dan Beard program is a full day of activities for first year scouts and includes the Swimming Merit Badge. Resica has a libertarian spirit with no minimum age for activities. Scouts, parents, and leaders determine what is appropriate for the scout. There is a large swimming pool and lake on the property. The camp has an extensive number of hiking trails and allows scouts to bike to various locations on the property. Risica offers traditional merit badges with scouts eating meals in a dining hall setting. There is an option for scouts to cook some meals at the campsites.

Rodney Scout Reservation – A 2 hour drive brings a scout to Rodney Scout Reservation in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. The camp utilizes all 900 acres with scouts strongly encouraged to bring a bicycle for traveling around the property. Rodney has an outstanding first year camper program with scouts learning scouting skills and earning various merit badges while completing the swimming merit badge. The camp offers an amazing number of merit badges for 2^nd – 4^thyear scouts. Older scouts can participate in a multiple day sailing trip to Baltimore Inner Harbor and back. The camp’s high adventure program offers activities such as flying an airplane, climbing a 190-foot rock wall, SCUBA, sailing, hiking, and geo caching. The waterfront on the Chesapeake has Hobbie Cats, Sun Fish, Sail Fish, Kayaks, Canoes, Single Hull Sailboats, waterskiing and Jet Skis. The camp has a beautiful swimming pool and 2 trading posts. Meals are served to scouts in the dining hall.
