Requirements

This section WILL NOT list the BSA requirements for each Merit Badge. All requirements are available in your Boy Scout Handbook; updated requirements can be found in the BSA pamphlet for each merit badge. To view requirements on-line, please consult meritbadge.org.

Please note the pictures of the Merit Badges... All badges trimmed in SILVER are EAGLE REQUIRED; those trimmed in GREEN are regular Merit Badges. Some badges can be earned as part of your Eagle path or as regular badges (ex. Cycling). In those cases, you will receive one trimmed in silver; otherwise you get a green one. Remember that you only need 12 Eagle Required (silver) badges plus 10 other badges of your choosing to qualify for Eagle Scout.

It is not possible for any Troop to have counselors available for all 120 Merit Badges offered by the BSA. While Troop 18 makes every effort to supply at least one MBC for all major badges, we may not have someone assigned to a particular badge that you would like to earn. In such a case, please contact the Merit Badge Chairman (XXX) to see what can be arranged. The Troop urges ALL PARENTS to lend their expertise to the Troop and become Merit Badge Counselors in their area(s) of expertise. It is time well invested in your son, other young men, your community and the future of our country. A Merit Badge Counselor Application Form can be downloaded from XXX on this website.

All Scouts MUST be prepared to do the following before seeking a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review:

1. The advancing Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit as well as the rank requirements.
2. He must have participated in 3 overnights or Troop activities defined by the Troop. One event MUST be a Camporee, the second MUST be Basic Training while the third campout or activity may be of the Scout's choice. This must be completed during the Scouting Year September thru July. Summer Camp does not count. A Scout seeking advancement early in the year must have shown that in the prior year he has attended the three campout minimum otherwise his advancement will be delayed until he shows a trend to do so in the New Year.
3. Scouts in leadership positions seeking to move up to Star, Life or Eagle MUST attend 80% of the PLC meetings (includes planning meetings). Check your leadership application and position descriptions.
