WELCOME!
I am privileged and honored to be your son or daughter's Communications Technology instructor. The learning environment within the Tech Lab is spacious yet studious as pictured below. Your child will be doing the majority of their learning by using a dual platform Apple computer. Many industry standard software programs, such as the Adobe Creative Suite, will become familiar to each student. Please check back to this site periodically for new information and updates.
Thank you, look forward to meeting you soon. Mr. Carlton
EXPECTATIONS:
I expect your son and/or daughter to succeed, be positive and have fun in the Tech Lab. These expectations will be inspected. Because students are coming into this class with a variety of experiences and abilities, your son and/or daughter must be able to be self-directed and display self-control. This is a project-oriented class in a relatively stress-free environment. I will do a minimal amount of lecturing and the expectation is for students to be working on their projects and becoming proficient with the software and assignments. Video tutorials are provided to help to insure your son and/or daughter success.
Students will learn there will be times when no one will be there to help learn. They must learn to seek and learn new things on their own to achieve and pursue happiness.
GRADING POLICY
Since virtually all of our work will be completed in class it is critical that you attend regularly. Likewise, it is essential that students remain on-task while in the lab. One-half of their overall grade will be determined by attendance and participation. Students cannot participate if you are absent!
GRADES ARE EARNED BY:
50% = Computer Projects and Learning Activities
30% = *Work Ethic, the principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous and worthy of reward. (*Is the student prepared to learn? Is the student dressed for work? Is the student respectful? Does the student put away his/her phone? Does the student follow lab mandates?)
20% = Tests, SSRWs, other paperwork assignmentsÂ
*Missed deadlines affect participation and project scores. Students must complete all assignments.
Note: Participation means that students are on-task whenever they are in the lab. The task may be listening or observing or responding. It will mean working in groups or individually. If your son and/or daughter consistently follows directions and abides by the classroom guidelines, they are participating.
