2010
As the second runner up in this years competition we went to Rugby Thornfield IBC for the finals along with the seven other clubs who also qualified. We were drawn in group 1 with Chanctonbury Foxes (West Sussex), Doddington (Cambs) and Middlezoy ( Somerset). First club we played was Middlezoy and the first session, singles and fours saw a very tight game in the fours with the scores tied at 3 all after 6 ends with only one end to play 3 down and with last wood 1st bus managed to fire the jack off the mat and on the replay with only the skips last two woods to bowl we were 3 up but the Middlezoy skip had other ideas and his last wood came to rest against the jack and as our wood was also touching the jack this made our last wood vital as any wrong contact would move our wood and we would lose, the last wood of the end was short so it was a very worthy draw. We lost the singles, and pairs by only 1 shot but won the triples. Next up was Chanctonbury Foxes where we only managed to get a draw in the singles, pairs again only losing by 1 shot.Lastly it was Doddington where the only success was in the fours. Another tremendous battle and 1 shot down with the score at 5-6 and 1 end to play, with some great bowling from the team we managed to take a two with the last bowl of the game and thus spoiled Doddingtons otherwise perfect record of wins.
Doddington played the other group winners Templecombe (Somerset) in the final and won joining Kirby Bedon (Norfolk) ( who won last year) as one of the top clubs in the country.
A great days bowling against players that we would not normally meet and this type of competition can only benifit players who want to progress in the sport.
This year the club travelled to Manea, in Cambridgeshire to compete against three other clubs in the National club championships which was started last year.
Playing in singles, pairs, triples and fours. 2 points for a win 1 for a draw and 1 point for overall shots decide the winners.
We started by playing against fellow Norfolk club Bob Carter and drew on shots 4-4 but lost on shots 26-35 we lost the pairs and triples but won the fours and singles. Next was London club Cucao and we drew on points
4-4 losing on the shots 25-37 again losing the pairs and triples and winning the fours and singles.lastly we played an Essex club Stonyhills and won 7-1 winning the singles, triples and fours and drawing in the pairs and also won on shots 31-23 so we came away with a very creditable 16 points.
Bob Carter were the winners with 21 points.
